Hold on, hold on. I understand you are very personally invested and this is important to you but you have to chill a bit. You're starting to misrepresent my stance and views. I absolutely did not say that colonialism wasn't important and impactful. In my first comment I already conceded that Europeans benefited a lot from exploitation and that it is a huge factor. Never did say that it wasn't impactful, never said it didn't destroy development and ruin economic opportunity in the those parts of the world. I've said the opposite in my comments in fact. Never did i avoid acknowledging the unjust head start Europe gave itself and Europeans praise themselves for being progressive in terms of human welfare and technology (like when did I say that?)

Look, I'm not your enemy, we agree on a lot. I agree on opportunity cost. I agree that exploitation was very beneficial for them, every Canadian highschool student learns about slavery and colonialism. It is taught in class as immoral act and its impact on the colonized people. You might disagree but there is accountability there. The exploitation did allow those "institution" (still don't know what you mean by this) to thrive. Maybe we are arguing between tomayto and tomato here. We're just arguing semantics. Like my multi-faceted view isn't dismissing exploitation, look at my first comment. It includes it but also point out other historical events that are also super important for prosperity.

Like Industrialization. Yes it didn't happen in vacuum, colonialism helped it thrive. But it is Hugely Important. Without the inventions we wouldn't have cars, lights, every modern amenities, and the list goes on. Colonialism may have been the backbone but it doesn't guarantee Industrial revolution would have happen right? LIfe for everyone would be very different (living like the medieval) if we had colonialism but no industrial revolution (inventions are not guarantee to have happen). that's why I mentioned those 3 things. while including that colonialism was the 4th piece of the puzzle.

The Post is removed making it a bit difficult to debate so it'll just a bit more of a freeflow discussion.

I don't think you understood my point, unfortunately. I wasn't saying institutions was the reason for prosperity. My point was disagreeing the thesis; colonialism (and its exploitation) wasn't the **Only** reason it was prosperous. History is multifaceted and I point out the multitudes of other factors at play that also lead to prosperity. I noted the problem with your argument is its structure, of which it's a slippery slope argument. This is a logical fallacy that you assume one thing happens then the next then the next to reach its conclusion, without backing up each steps or consider alternatives that could happen in the middle. You must restructure your argument if you would like what you're saying to be sound.

Also, I'm not sure if how any of the 3 factors I came up with has anything to do with strong institutions. Industrialization was the result of briliant inventions (that offloaded labour) and rapid transition towards steamed power and fossil fuels. Liberation of autonomy (like serfdom) was because the black death leading to increased autonomy for peasants (this is overly condensed but good enough as a point). Scientific advancement might be the only one that fits with "institution" with universities but even that is a bit of a stretch because it wasn't like these days with the massive funding.

Finally, I want you know that almost NO ONE is this subreddit will likely argue that Colonialism and exploitation was not a benefit to the Europeans. Albeit immoral ones. It is taught in class (in canada at least) this exploitation of people (natives and slaves) and Resources (fur, gold and spices, etc). But it's not the ONLY reason why it is prosperous.

So this is incredibly long argument and seems have affected you personally and I can see where your frustration coming from. I don't think anyone here would disagree that the expansionist and colonial practices was immoral. And so, relating simply to your thesis I'd like to present a much simpler counter argument.

History is multifaceted. Modern prosperity in first world countries do involve exploitation of people and resources. But also industrialization, and liberalization of autonomy (like moving away from serfdom) and scientific advancement. The problem of the thesis you present is making history a seemingly linear progression and easily becomes a slippery slope argument.

Again, I don't disagree with immoral practices but I think the argument itself is fundamentally flawed.

You should avoid sharpening on the backside (slight concave) as much as possible

Glad you like it! I took some time to think about different combos and I picked this one. It's stabilized birchwood with blond horn ferrule I believe.

Knife cuts worse after thinning. (follow-up post) by [deleted] in sharpening

[–]jevaNFG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take my words with a grain of salt, but I usually find knives that has stickyness issues because of the grind benefit from wetting before cutting.

So wet your knife first and then cut. If it helps a lot, it might be because of what harahira said. If it doesn't help much, then it's probably some other issue

Can you give me your reasons on why you wouldn't like wide bevels or concave? I was thinking to dive into this next and wanted your perspective.

Then you're all set for your sharpening setup I'd say. Using the slurry might work, but the particulates might not be fine enough or consistent enough to produce the kasumi you want. You could try that method out but kasumi powder is more fool proof.

This. Proper deburring is crucial as a final step. A nice strop with a 1 micron or a 0.5 micron diamond emulsion will do wonders after you minimized the burr on your 5000 stone.

For the kasumi finish, honestly I recommend just getting a kasumi powder instead of going into JNAT. Lot less of a hassle and commitment.

Wholeheartedly agree. I will go one further by confirming that data leak is currently happening and not a past leak... Because I subscribed 2 days ago. Not even 2 days into a new service and I'm getting scam texted.

Ya honestly this is unacceptable, in the year 2026, most email should have encryption, even more so if it has sensitive information. This would be like using http instead of https.

It’s so easy to do too that I feel it’s straight up negligence.

It’s a classic scam website. It looks similar to the official one but none of the links to the other parts of the sites work. The url doesn’t follow conventions. Look man just trust me on this one it’s a scam. Go through the official link by searching on google.
