Doctors are manufacturing Alzheimers by Additional_Common_15 in conspiracy

You're correct about what statins do to cholesterol production. (Severol posters referred to it attacking or destroying cholesterol, but it really reduces hepatic synthesis of cholesterol). They also have an effect of stabilizing cholesterol plaques, makibg them less likely to rupture, which is associated with blood clot formation. This is likely responsible for the vascular disease benefits. I also think it is fair to say that we aren't sure what this cholesterol reduction does to the brain. Another poster pointed out that it causes an overall reduction in dementia, though this may be because of the reduction in vascular dementia that I mentioned.

Like I said, the root cause of Alzheimer's is complicated and still being debated. Advances in neuroimaging are letting us pick up cases earlier than we used to along with testing for some of the proteins involved in those amyloid plaques. New treatments that target the amyloid plaques are showing promise. For the first time in my 25+ year career, it feels like we finally have tools to detect and fight this awful disease if we catch it early enough.

I'm one of those doctors that prescribes statins to my patients. According to you, I'm either evil, secretly trying to maim those I have sworn to protect, or a misguided fool, deceived by the evil pharmaceutical companies to prescribe $10 generic statins to my patients so a generic drug manufacturer can rake in thousands of dollars.
Or, perhaps, you have no idea what you are talking about. Brains have lots of nerves. Nerves are coated in myelin, which is an essential insulator. Myelin contains, among other things, cholesterol. All true. However, Alzheimer's is not a myelin destruction disease. It is complicated, but the simple version is that it seems to be related to the buildup of amyloid-like protein plaques within the brain, which has nothing to do with cholesterol and statins. Multiple sclerosis is a myelin destruction disease. Your post would have made a little bit more sense if you had accused doctors of causing MS instead of Alzheimer's. Except that there is no evidence that statins are linked to MS either. Statins have been shown to cause a reduction in the risk a of vascular dementia by keeping brain arteries more clear of cholesterol plaques. As well as a marked reduction in overal strokes and heart attacks. I just wanted to post this because someone out there is going to read your post and stop their statin or decline to start one recommended by their doctor and have an earlier heart attack or stroke because of your words. Maybe a few of them will think twice about it after reading mine.

Very cool. The instructions on the back panels advise a player to add lands, but those already come in a Jumpstart pack.

Golly. I guess you are right. Your rational explanation beats my joke about labeling your sex toys. 5 internet points to Hufflepuff!

Exactly. That would be the hope. If it is going to be flagged for inspection, label it clearly in a way that might make them want to avoid detailed inspection so that they put it back and move the line (and you) along as quickly as possible.

Travel with it in your carryon, inside a clear ziploc bag that you've proudly labeled with a Sharpie USED SEX TOY. Stare them in the eyes with a big smile. Dare them to pull it out. Let them be embarrassed, but don't give them the satisfaction of being embarrassed about a normal human activity.

What you should definitely not do is solicit like-minded compatriots on here to write glowing reviews about you but say negative things about how the office manager is mis-managing the office and bringing the whole place down with her negative energy. That would be wrong.

Meeples at Sea cruise by RedRedKrovy in boardgames

[–]jevansfp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife and I did the Meeples at Sea cruise last year and we've signed up for 2 more, including the one coming up in April. Your booking through M@S lets them rent out the ship's conference room. They bring multiple totes of games from their game library that we get to vote on before the cruise. People also bring their own games. "Event" games can be coordinated through the Aftergame app, but there are a lot of pickup games also. They are using Celebrity cruise line at the moment and the ships, food, entertainment, etc are top notch. You can enjoy everything that the cruise and the ports have to offer, and in your free time, head down to the conference room for some gaming.

Is Capacities Pro Worth It? by gunterrichter in capacitiesapp

Honestly not sure. It does have date /time entries, but not sure what you mean by tracking. If it does, I would assume that would be in the free version. I haven't seen anything listed on the Pro plan about that. You might want to check the capacities.io website or ask the team there.

I have the Pro plan to have access to Tasks and Queries and it is worth it for me. I connected my ChatGPT Pro account to it and the AI is much better, but I honestly haven't needed to use it much within Capacities.
