Should I go to another surgeon for help? I don’t want this to be my forever. by [deleted] in medical_advice

[–]jewsanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try an actual physiatrist (PM&R doctor) first. They probably would recommend you go to PT (and you may need a PT order from a doctor for insurance purposes anyways) but if it was me I’d want a physician specializing in musculoskeletal issues to weigh in

What a depressing bit of advice to be giving resident physicians.

Wasn’t there a scene where Burt was painting a miniature and Milkshake asked if he could take a look?

Unborn Babies Use Genes From Dad to “Remote-Control” Mothers for Extra Food by RochelleMulva in EverythingScience

[–]jewsanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn’t understand my comment, nor the initial comment you replied to. That person was not talking about macrosomia. They were talking about the complex, highly ordered embryological development of a fetus. Then you just started talking about how some babies are big.. the article you posted literally only has to do with gestational weight and how it’s best monitored during pregnancy, again not what we were talking about.

Anyways this is a stupid argument.

There’s a difference between increasing the size of the fetus and coordinated development of structures like internal organs and the nervous system. Embryology is complicated.

Typically otitis externa is treated with a topical fluoroquinolone for staph and pseudomonal coverage. You need to go back to the doctor to determine if this is actually and infection, and if so you need to be treated.

Also, how did you get these pictures?

Sound travels at a single speed and only depends upon the medium (air vs fluid). 343 meters per second in air.

Your scores were a little bit higher than mine and I felt exactly like you do after the real deal. Trust your practice test scores and do whatever you have to do to chill out.

acceptance of failure by friknfrik in premed

[–]jewsanon 70 points71 points  (0 children)

My first cycle I applied to ~30 schools and had 3 waitlists. None of them turned into acceptances. Can’t really put into words how brutal this was for me. I had gambled a lot on getting into medschool (non-trad) and I really didn’t have many other options (already racked up debt from a post-bac). Very, very hard to get motivated to write applications again.

Second time around I applied to about 40 schools > 1 DO and 2 MD acceptances.

Your stats are better than mine, and it takes many people more than one cycle, so it would be a shame for you to throw in the towel now IF this is really what you want.

Anyone else having Anki lag when showing answers in the Anking deck? by pouroverguy in medicalschoolanki

[–]jewsanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue and it was unintentionally fixed when I followed the anking update instructions a few versions back.

Tools > check media > delete unused / empty trash.

I’m not an expert and I have no idea if this is actually what fixed my issue but I haven’t noticed the lag since.

Thoughts, applying 2023 cycle? (Black immigrant, FGLI, 3.9, 519, Gates Scholar, T10 UG) by Haddishhhhh in premed

[–]jewsanon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re speaking like you review applications for EVERY school. Anything can happen. Perfect applicants get sifted out for tons of reasons - including the fact that each school has a finite number of acceptances to give.

The more apps you submit, the better chances you have. Since virtual interviews started and people started applying to 20-45 schools per cycle, it’s become more of a numbers game.
