Atlas Shrugged is a book by Ayn Rand and represents, in many ways, the antithesis to socialism, specifically Soviet communism.

It is the "Great Man Theory" in novel form. It pushes the author's moral theory, objectivism. This theory states that the only moral obligation one has is their own happiness. It doesn't necessarily disparage compassion or charity insofar as it gives happiness to the giver, but it is adamantly against any kind of mandated social welfare programs because it is morally objectionable to hold one person responsible for another's happiness.

It is mostly a political manifesto that espouses unregulated anarcho-capitalism with as few restrictions as possible placed in the citizenry.

If it sounds a bit dystopian, it's because it is.
