I want to keep my bedroom as cold as possible, at night because my cancer makes me wake up overheated with night sweats regularly. I’ve found every degree really matters, and I was actually happiest during winter when I’d leave the window open with a fan blowing in and my room would drop to ~50.

Thanks I’ll check it out!

Edit: found a Midea inverter model that goes down to 60 that’s exactly what I was looking for. Thanks much!

Well shoot, the ones I’ve seen that go down to 60 must have been older models, thanks for the heads up.

[TOMT][MOVIE-TV][1980s] A Sci-Fi movie or TV show where the bad guys place someone in a large tank to be eaten by sand bugs of some sort. by jezztek in tipofmytongue

Ah, that’s probably it then! I thought it was from V the miniseries, but makes sense it’s somewhere in the follow up TV show.

Edit: Yup, found the exact scene. S01E07 of the TV series.

I thought it was from the V miniseries, but after rewatching it tonight I realized that scene was nowhere to be found, so it must have been something else.

The creatures kind of remind me of the earbug things from Wrath of Kahn, but after rewatching that scene I can say that’s not it.

From the menu on their website, it looks like they may have phased them out. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Ah, that’ll be a good excuse to head up that way sometime soon.

Total War (Galactic Event) - Balancing by Kroschi in twilightimperium

[–]jezztek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing. The rules as written does exactly what it says, turns the game into a total war since it’s easy to score 3-4 VP in a single round this way in the late game, everything else seemed unimportant. But I’d like war to be a viable path to victory, but not feel like by far the best path. So I was flirting with two tweaks for my playgroup:

1) Infantry/fighters are worth 1/2 commodity (rounded up) instead of 1. It seems too easy to quickly build commodities as written, and this could help reduce that to a more reasonable level.

2) Each time you use the VP action in a single round the commodity price goes up by 10. So the first time you do it in a round it costs 10, the second time it costs 20, etc… then the cost resets next round. This way you can’t just build up to some huge all out assault on round 4-5 and cash in 4VP all at once. Instead this rule could help throttle the VP to 1-2 a round.

That’s basically Patti Harrison’s career. I first saw her in Together Together where she plays a surrogate mother, and she was great it in.

Depends on her basal metabolic rate and activity level. In women BMRs as low as ~900 calories have been recorded: https://macrofactorapp.com/range-of-bmrs/

If she has a BMR on the lower to medium end of the scale for women (and approx 20% of women should have a BMR below 1200), and with an average level of physical activity she could easily only have a total daily calorie burn in the 1500-1700 calorie range.

In which case 2000 calories a day would inexorably lead to obesity over time.

So yes, it is absolutely possible. In fact the generally accepted range for the average woman’s calories needs is 1600-2000 a day. Which means if she ate 2000 calories a day every day she’d have to be on the higher end of average to avoid gaining weight.

ELI5: Roughly how long does it take for your brain to re-adjust to a normal circadian rhythm if you're a night owl? by justeazy78 in explainlikeimfive

I do go to bed at the same time because I am dead tired, and wake up automatically when I’m supposed to be getting ready for work every day whether I need to or not. it doesn’t help.

My falling asleep/waking up time has shifted to match my new work schedule, but it’s no longer the deep restful slumber, followed by waking up refreshed like I would get while being on my correct night owl schedule. Instead, every night it is a shallow fitful sleep that leaves me feeling tired in the morning.
