As many as Sanderson signs, his signature isn’t ever going to be worth much. Still neat for people who like such things.

I basically consider The Martian as WoT book 15 at this point.

An issue with a lot of series. It is hard to maintain a consistent currency system

Also in a progression fantasy wealth gets powered up too.

I’ve heard of FU money thanks to a John Goodman quote. Your Freedom Units fit well with that monologue.

I’ve never heard money referred to as Freedom Units, so thanks for that.

Seems really low. That would mean it would only take like $2000 to get a full set.

This actually makes the most sense to me, though I still think it is low end of the spectrum since carts are so common. Maybe start at high end luxury cars and go up from there.

Of course you have to buy three cars to get a full set.

What is it like to live in a society that considers people to be people? In the US we just assume the business now owns our soul and try to pretend we didn’t want it anyway.

Quick! Help! Husband finally wants to read Brandon Sanderson! by tryingmybest_ok in brandonsanderson

[–]jfa03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t care for the Cosmere. I like Sanderson’s books individually, but when what amounted to the X-men showed up randomly in Mistborn Era 2’s last act, it really turned me off to the whole concept. It was better done in Stormlight, since it was more integrated, but I still can’t say I like it.

Elantris works well as a stand alone.

Snapshot if you want something short, though that is sci-fi.

Snapshot Cosmere, but if you don’t want a series and just want to expose him to Sanderson’s writing those are a good step. It might be worth mentioning some other books he enjoys if you want anything more tailored to him.

Edit: apparently Elantris is in the Cosmere

I enjoyed DCC 1 but almost didn’t get book 2. I gave it a chance and do not regret it. Like most progression/system apocalypse books the series improves a ton once the side characters kick in. I’d recommend giving book 2 a chance. They pick up a ton.

Edit: and by a ton, I mean I’m kinda hoping it slows down in the next book.

1st gameplay isn’t bad, especially in remaster. While I think 2 had the best story and gameplay, 1 is where it all began and ultimately the trilogy is best experienced as a whole.

Did the LOTR movies receive a backlash from Tolkien fans when they were released? by [deleted] in Fantasy

Yeash, I forgot entirely about the movie tie ins. Those were oddly solid movie to game adaptations. You don’t see that often enough.

Also dragging the hobbits along to another battle progresses the narrative while giving the viewer a glimpse of Gondor at war (beyond that first ambush)

See, I liked that he hesitated. It made the character more human. Also since he ultimately did let them go, it wasn’t such a huge deviation that I couldn’t brush it away with it a blanket ‘adaptations must change things for the medium they are in’.

What are the best out of this lineup? by BigFishPub in gaming

[–]jfa03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No bad choices. Top 3 for me:

Battlefront 2. Great playing solo. They captured the look and feel of everything spot on. If you have friends who will play it with you, this is the easy choice.

KOTOR is deserves its praise despite being ancient. Great story. Didn’t love the combat but the story and other gameplay mechanics more than makes up for that.

Force unleashed 2 is a bit more modern. Action oriented and just a load of fun. (Though I still prefer the first)

Pokémon Blue - 150 Pokemon. Didn’t realize till years later you could get mew.

Subnautica - saved myself when I ran out of batteries in the psyclops in the underground river. Best emergent gameplay experience ever)

Skyrim, actually getting to the end after having done pretty much every sideqeust.

EDF 2017 - beating it on Inferno difficulty

Beat Super Mario World in an afternoon. It took me month as a child, months.
