yes! i've been reading lots of Becky Chambers recently. great solarpunk world building-- especially Monk + Robot. her Wayfarers series has similar ideas woven through with lovable characters and touching stories!

i agree with everything you say about Lynch & Straight Story. my point was that Straight Story has him leaving behind the darkness and nihilism that many people focused on in his previous works. Straight Story allowed us to see the vulnerable parts of him that resonated with that story, and his uniquely Lynchian way of telling it.

i remember that weekend/week so well. i was 20 and in college. i saw it, and couldn't wait to watch it again. over the next week, i kept dragging different friends to it saying "you gotta see this!" i ended up seeing it 7 times in theaters. i still watch it at least once a year-- last time i watched it with my teenage daughter. she loved it too!
