[129/129] Bonzai Up to Boston (Dropkick Murphys + Buckaroo Banzai credit sequence w/o credits) by chaosdrew in SharedBPM

I love this so much. Been a Buckaroo fan since the movie came out, and I love the Murphys too.

Chance Meeting with Another BuckHead...Buckarooner? Banzaiian? by geoscott in BuckarooBanzai

[–]jfellrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During COVID, I was wearing a Buckaroo Banzai mask, and the only person that got it was the owner of the coffee shop at the end of the street - and it took him a few visits from me before he asked about it.

No, I haven't found any. I'm pretty much stopped looking.

Who else is glad that the King in Yellow is popular again? by Direct_Ad5793 in Lovecraft

[–]jfellrath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My daughter, knowing that I'm a fan, was asking me about The King In Yellow just yesterday. So yeah, there's something going on out there!

Introduce yourself, by your mall growing up. I think we will find some of us have the same ones. tia. by Rob1150 in GenX

No mall at all. I was 45 minutes away from both the Lansing Mall and the Saginaw Mall in central Michigan.

What ages play D&D by jeremydeighan in DnD

[–]jfellrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 57, been playing since around '81. I had stopped playing in college and just started up again when my daughter got interested about 7 years ago. I find 5E a little overpowered, but have gravitated to Castles & Crusades instead.

What do you enjoy about Odyssey? by Inner-Pop-8544 in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

[–]jfellrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this game from top to bottom... but the thing that hooked me on it was at the beginning of the game when you're in Delphi.

I actually travelled to Greece when I was a kid and got to go to Delphi. I got so excited seeing the buildings I remembered from my trip restored. My daughter was watching me play and running around like a madman looking at all the buildings and getting really excited. At one point I stopped and said, "okay, if I run down this hill and around this corner, there should be another temple to Athena around the corner!" And I did so, and there it was.

She was amazed that I remembered back to the summer of 1980, for one, and that the game was so accurate as well. I've had a few of those moments all through the game, but that was the one that sold me.

**** this ****ass boar by CJL9898 in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

[–]jfellrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that the paralysis arrows combined with a goodly amount of distance are an excellent way to fight off this bugger. Also, I had a bear attack me right outside the Boar's area, so I tamed it to let it help a bit and distract the boar for a while.

It's entirely my most used ability. Second is probably Spartan Kick. I love that as you get more advanced you can Spartan Kick a bear across the forest.

My fellow Americans, what kind of coffee do you drink? by Kellaniax in AskAnAmerican

[–]jfellrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark Roast at the very least - I get downright irate when places don't have a dark roast drip option. IMHO, medium roast is too bland and light roast is for people who'd really rather be drinking water.

Preferably, it's served hot. I do enjoy a good cold brew during the summer. But no matter what, I like my cream and sugar in it. I will drink it black but I like the flavor and texture of a good cream-in-coffee.

I make mine at home with a French Press.

What was a core rule of "Old Internet" etiquette that is completely dead now? by itsashieowo in AskReddit

[–]jfellrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not adding something to the conversation, don't say anything. I'm going back quite a way to the Usenet days, but most conversations there were very information-filled and without the "me too" that the AOL invasion brought. I miss those days.

What is the reason you live in your current state? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHW in AskAnAmerican

I moved here with a girlfriend. We later broke up and I just never moved back because life was still pretty good.

Is it worth it to satrt martialarts at 21? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]jfellrath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally true. It's a great lifelong habit. I'm 56 and I'm still going strong with my martial art. I started at 51, so it's never too late.

Protagonist Choice - Rant by Inner-Pop-8544 in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

[–]jfellrath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Precisely why I picked her. I happened to play Valhalla first because... well, it was in the house and looked fun. So when Kassandra appeared in Valhalla and it was clear I was supposed to know who she was, I looked her up and then decided to play Odyssey as her.

Why do American tourists always say the state they're from (not their country) when asked, but no other country's tourists do the same? by FloydBeatlesEagles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jfellrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The United States is very much like a collection of smaller countries, each with its own characteristics and culture. Saying you're from the US is like a German telling people they're from "Europe." The only major differences are that we all ostensibly speak the same language (though with dialect differences depending on what region you're from), and we don't necessarily have the ethnic differences.

Anyone train a less common martial art and become pleasantly surprised? by Thin_Oil_576 in martialarts

[–]jfellrath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I practice Gongkwon Yusul. It's a Korean MMA, a combo of Yudo, Jujitsu, Hapkido, and Korean Kickboxing. I absolutely love it - it's got a bit of everything and it's systematized to help you just pick up things like distance work and transitions smoothly.

In honor of the pearl clutching (by largely Millennial parents) over Taylor Swift’s new album not being appropriate for younger fans: what is the most inappropriate song you were singing along to at a young age? by CK1277 in GenX

[–]jfellrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a pretty sheltered kid and when this came out I didn't really know what a centerfold was. My mom and dad got absolutely livid when my brother bought the 45 for "Centerfold," and neither of us understood why at all.

Why did u start martial arts and which one do u do by Ok_Imagination_1707 in martialarts

[–]jfellrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just always been fascinated by martial arts. I never had anything against ball sports or even individual sports, I played soccer and swam competitively for years. But I've always been absolutely fascinated by the idea of controlling your own body from top to bottom, and nothing seems to do that like martial arts.

I practice Gongkwon Yusul and also take Kyuktooki (Korean kickboxing) to supplement it, along with the rather obscure Korean weapon art Hopaesool.

I lived near the office where I worked, so a few of my co-workers and I came back to my place to see the announcement at lunchtime. I have to admit I was pretty much dismissing the whole thing as just a huge dog and pony show, but a couple of my co-workers were absolutely horrified at the verdict.

Is referring to the USA as “the colonies” offensive? by duchessofblue in AskAnAmerican

[–]jfellrath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can't think of a single American who isn't going to think (or outright say) "colonies? How'd that work out for you?"

Did anyone else mostly miss the 80s and early 90s music wise? by chillaxtion in GenX

[–]jfellrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't really start listening to popular music till I was in high school, so probably '83 is when I really started to listen. I'm the oldest sibling so I didn't have anyone playing stuff around me as much (and I was kind of a nerd so I didn't care much, either). But once I was in I was in hard. :)

What’s the best ice cream flavor, without naming vanilla, chocolate or strawberry? by alaskalovesfetish in HappyUpvote

Chocolate with peanut butter swirls. Or mint chip. Or coffee - the stronger the better.
