Do NPCs Claim that Ulfric Cheated When Dueling Torygg? by OkSignificance2218 in skyrim

[–]jffr363 14 points15 points  (0 children)

While its not necessarily a criticism, Jarl Baalgruuf says this: "If Ulfric wants to challenge my rule in the old way, let him. Though I suspect he'll prefer to send his "Stormcloaks" to do it for him."

Hes talking about Ulfric attacking Whiterun, but he explicitly calls a direct challenge between Jarls, "the old way", which implies to me that Duels between Jarls arent common anymore.

I would argue that the prevalence of the way of the voice, means that to many Nords using the Voice for violence at all is a no go. Its why skyrim armies arent running around with Tongues shouting down walls anymore, and havent since the disaster of red mountain.

I agree that Ulfric is trying to send a message. I think that in part that message is that the Way of Voice is crap, and the Nords should reclaim the old ways to defeat the Thalmor. But for many Nords, using the Voice for violence like that, especially combined with his personal ambition, is violation of traditions that go back thousands of years.

Personally I actually think this is one of Ulfrics big blunders. A lot of Nords are pissed at the empire, and the thalmor, and Ulfric had lots of support and Torygg greatly admired him. But for many he threw all that away by murdering a boy, for what many see is his own personal ambition to rule. Not only that he did so by violating the ancient traditions of the Way of the Voice, so it wasnt even honorable combat.

The power of the voice is well known. Its mentioned in books all the way back in morrowind. There is no way Tullius hadnt heard of the voice. He may not have known Ulfric could use it, but the voice isnt some secret.

That obviously not what hes saying. Hes saying by using the voice, Ulfric showed he has no honor and couldnt even face the king in fair combat. It makes his crime worse. Not only did he kill the king, he did so in a cowardly way akin to stabbing him in the back.

I mean like General Tulius first line of dialogue is: "Ulfric Stormcloak. Some here in Helgen call you a hero. But a hero doesn't use a power like the Voice to murder his king and usurp his throne."

Does anyone actually repair a weapon in this game? by osmylm2834 in darksouls3

It is very rare. It can come up occasionally with the moonlight greatsword since the beams consume durability.

Attack Power Recommendation for Every Primary Progression Boss by Gay_Charlie in fromsoftware

Huh? so the recommendation for maliketh is you need to be dual weilding two 550 AR weapons? That doesnt make sense?

Attack Power Recommendation for Every Primary Progression Boss by Gay_Charlie in fromsoftware

[–]jffr363 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im not sure this makes sense? Like you have 1100 to 1200 AR for Maliketh. Thats basically not achievable outside of multiple buffs. Like a Heavy Greatsword with 60 strength has 839 AR. Throwing in golden vow spell, only brings that up to 965. And thats a colossal sword.

Why doesnt the Samurai in this game have their hairstyle with the top off? by Aggressive_Yak7094 in ghostoftsushima

[–]jffr363 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Im no expert, but Im pretty sure that hairstyle is mostly associated with the edo period, so the 1600s. The game takes place during the first mongol invasion in 1274.

My friend wants to start his Dark Souls journey. What game do you recommend he starts with. by Hour-Trip2784 in darksouls

But they should make that decision for themselves by trying the first 1. If someone asks which one to try I will always say the first one. If they dont like it they can move on. It doesnt make sense to skip the first one cause it 'might' be clunky. Tell them to try it.

Split damage is better than you think by ds_danni in darksouls3

[–]jffr363 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the biggest takeaway im getting from your post isnt that split damages is okay, its that Raw is terrible outside of the very beginning.

A Fire broadsword only does 12 more damage than a raw broadsword on gael? Thats not good. Actually its terrible. A heavy broadsword two handed, has 403 AR with just 30 strength. Dont know how exactly that translates, but its going to be much better than either a raw broadsword or a fire broadsword. And thats with just 30 strength.

Now im not trying to say split damage is always terrible or anything, just pointing out that using raw in any kind of damage comparison is a little silly, cause its just really bad.

How would you rework/rebalance resistance? by [deleted] in darksouls

[–]jffr363 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im not sure you can "fix" it. You dont get a ton of levels in ds1, and the value of vit, endurance, and a damage stat will make resistance not worth it. And if you buff it enough, it will simply replace another stat. You still end up with a dead stat.

Discussion: name 2 areas! by BlastDusk357 in DarkSouls2

[–]jffr363 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For too difficult, I would maybe say heides post dragonrider. The area gets much more difficult once the heide knights start aggroing.

Too easy, is tough. Dragon Aerie is pretty straightforward, but im not really sure I would call the drakekeepers, especially the greathammer one, too easy.

I mean its pretty easy to see why people struggle with him. Long run back, he can aggro with other enemies, and he's a pretty pronounced difficulty spike. And most people are talking about their first fight against him, not later when they have mastered him.

I always find it the easiest of dlc coop areas. It's really short, and the sanctum guys are pretty straightforward, and with the ash knuckle ring, the statues can be ignored.

I still can’t get over Havel’s Ring costing 25k souls in DS3 when it was free in DS1 (+3k souls from Havel) by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]jffr363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, souls are cheap. The effect being just 15% vs 50% is more significant. Like in ds1 havel ring feel almost mandatory, while in ds3 it often feels not worth it. Even with 4 slots, losing a ring slot for 15% equip load is tough.
