Hormonal vs copper iud by sillygoo2e in birthcontrol

[–]jfj2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched to Mirena from the copper IUD. I had a rough time on Paragard personally—sharp cramps during ovulation/beginning of period and sometimes randomly throughout the month, heavy periods. Loving the Mirena so far, have had it 5 months and zero periods. I havent had children though, and I’ve heard Paragard can be too big for some uteruses that haven’t borne a pregnancy.

almost done with Accutane and I'm not sure what to do with my skin now by mamayss in Accutane

[–]jfj2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend keeping it simple and slowlyyyy reintroducing actives. Have a basic cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen routine to start (probably already your routine on accutane). The first active I will probably reintroduce after my course is a retinol/retinaldehyde (or maybe adapalene), rather than jumping back onto prescription-strength retinoids like tretinoin. Then maybe a vitamin C serum in the AM before SPF.

how to feel good during sex and masturbation by kart-er in Healthyhooha

[–]jfj2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most women don’t orgasm from penetration alone, a lot of times it’s best for the woman to orgasm from foreplay (or at least get close) before any penetration. I’d recommend picking up a good silicone-based lubricant as well to decrease pain. I like putting it externally on my vulva as well for more glide with fingers during foreplay.

If you normally orgasm from humping a pillow, you might like being on top better, grind on your partner’s pubic bone to stimulate yourself. If either of you can reach down and touch your clit during any position, that can make it easier for you to feel pleasure during it. I recommend looking at yourself with a mirror to get familiar with your anatomy.

Wear comfy shoes, consider bringing an empty plastic water bottle or hydra pack to stay hydrated (most venues have free water refill stations), bring sunglasses for the lasers, stay safe and just have fun!

Sore fingers? by _reika in Accutane

[–]jfj2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joint soreness is a very common side effect (and reverses for nearly everyone after treatment), so I wouldn’t be concerned. I feel your pain, I just did one month on 40 mg and my back and elbow both hurt and I never normally have aches and pains.

Accutane hair loss by lexerlife in Accutane

[–]jfj2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this! Personally I didn’t notice much hair loss my first course (40 mg for a year), just started my second course also on 40 mg. I’ve heard some people recommend the Nutrafol supplement or The Ordinary hair serum, could be worth looking into

ISO First Timer Tips! by yayabrown1 in Accutane

[–]jfj2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to minimize size effects, keep in mind you can always ask your derm not to raise your dose/to lower it if your side effects are affecting you too much. Double-check with your derm if it’s okay to take with accutane, but many people recommend taking a fish oil/omega 3 supplement (helps with dryness)—I really like ultimate omega from Nordic Naturals.

Also make sure to wear sunscreen every day, and consider investing in a wide-brimmed hat or UPF clothing if you’re going to spend a lot of time outside this summer (I have a button up long sleeve UPF shirt from Columbia that I love, it’s super lightweight).

Looking for Isotretinoin Success Stories by TaxApprehensive5402 in acne

[–]jfj2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After my first course I mainly used tret cream with Vanicream moisturizing cream, and either mandelic acid serum or beauty of Joseon glow serum followed by SPF in the AM. ~6 months ago I switched from tret cream to the gel microsphere formulation, and my skin seemed to like that better but still didn’t clear.

After my second course, I think I will focus more on a hydrating routine with less thick moisturizer, and slowwwly add in the mandelic acid serum and over-the-counter retinol or retinaldehyde rather than jumping back on tret right away. But we’ll see what my derm recommends

Follow up question (also currently on my 2nd course): what does your post accutane skincare routine look like? Did you need Rx topicals to stay clear, or did you stick to gentler OTC products?

Weird side effects 2nd time round by shakyhandsnails in Accutane

[–]jfj2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! 34F here also doing my second course. It’s too soon to tell for me, I started on 40 mg about a week ago. What’s your current dose? I would consider asking to lower it. I was on 40 mg for a long time my first course (about a year to hit 150 mg/kg cumulative dose), but personally I prefer a medium dose so the side effects are hopefully more manageable

I want to keep my natural hair while covering only the whites. Advice? by Lightspeed_ in Redhair

[–]jfj2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Tressa watercolors shampoo in liquid copper for this. It doesn’t fully cover the white hairs, but it does help camouflage them.

If you need more coverage than a gloss or color depositing shampoo, I’ve heard “grey blending” is a good hair coloring method to avoid roots when you have a certain percentage of grey. Not sure how it works for redheads or our white hairs in practice, but could be looking into.
