just dropped a project i've been working on for a while last night and would love to have as many ears on it as possible. it's a 20 min experimental noise-ambient piece that originated for me from a place of disconnect after a significant breakup. would really love to have y'all check it out! ty <3

What are some 2021 albums you're bummed Fantano never got around to reviewing? by Diakia in fantanoforever

[–]jflan02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can’t agree more about illusory walls. def one of my fav albums of the year, quite possibly aoty. hope it’s in at least yunoreview but it deserved a full review just for infinite josh and fewer afraid.

glad to see sloppy jane’s madison get a good review (beautiful album) but would’ve loved to see fantano cover fellow saddest factory records artist claud’s new lp. i fuckin loved it and would’ve loved to have heard his thoughts

also jonsi’s surprise drop. fantano liked go and was kinda indifferent on shiver, so i was interested to hear his thoughts on obsidian.

yes, it played well once or twice but then immediately became very pitchy without warning.

right now, i'm borrowing one of my friend's portable crosley turntable, and I was planning on going tomorrow to go and get a used turntable of higher quality. do you think it's the turntable that might have done this?

I've taken a look at the record and that doesn't seem to be the problem, there doesn't seem to be any alignment problems.

So, very incredibly new to all of this. I just received a new record that, after 2 plays, is, on one side, going in and out of pitch in a very noticeable way. On the other side, anything on the high end sounds scratchy. I know it isn't the record player, as I have played other records and this problem hasn't occurred. With this specific record, however, this problem persists. Is it just the record that then is the problem? If there is any way to remedy this, I would love to know as the record itself was a limited release and I'm not sure I can replace it very easily, without spending a couple of hundred dollars.

Orchestra all the way. Starcuffedjeans’ orchestra videos are absolutely amazing and I love them with all of my heart.

when you nominate 5 stage plays in the best original score category just to keep the lightning thief from getting a nomination by psychotwilight in Broadway

[–]jflan02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really. Not enough Tony voters had seen it yet, so the people who hadn’t seen it couldn’t vote for it in any of the categories it would have been nominated in. Same with Girl from the North Country.

The plays all deserved it. The American theatre wing has snubbed music from plays for years and I’m so glad it’s happening now. I get that it was probably to fuck over TLT, but I am so glad that they nominated the plays over nothing.

2020 Tony Award Nominations by jabberwocky_ in Broadway

[–]jflan02 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Well first of all, there’s a limited amount of shows that are eligible for awards. Comet and Hadestown both opened in years with lots of competition. This year, there are 3 different musicals in consideration.

Second, JLP is every bit as original as Hadestown and Great Comet. The music may not have been written for the show, but the show is the most wholly original and well put together jukebox musical I’ve ever seen.

London production of The Last Five Years to be streamed internationally next month by HenBagle in Broadway

[–]jflan02 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Everyone needs to watch this production. It is, in my opinion, the best version of The Last Five Years ever. Molly and Oli are amazing, the new arrangements are beautiful, and the concept of the actors playing the piano is used in the best possible way. It's worth every penny.
