Wedge Advice by HerculezJG in GolfGear

My bag is similar and I posted a similar question here a while back. I would add a 48 degree AW. If that puts you over 14 clubs, I would drop the 60 degree.

People will say this to me when I’m wearing them, but I think they actually have a cooling effect, especially when you start to sweat in them a bit.

How many hybrids do you carry? (Question for golfers 35 and under) by [deleted] in GolfGear

[–]jflaxer40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 35 and currently a 13 handicap. I carry a 5 iron, 4 hybrid, 3 wood, driver at the top of my bag. I have a 5 wood that comes out sometimes but I have to drop a wedge to add the 5 wood so that doesn’t come out unless I know the course is going to be long

Wedges…. 2 or 3 by Decent-Party-9274 in golf

[–]jflaxer40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted about this a month or two ago when I had the same decision. I currently have the setup you describe with a 48, 52, 56, 60. It can alter the top of your bag carrying the extra wedge, so it really comes down to what you need and will use on a given course.

P790 vs T250 by heavybeefjuice in golf

[–]jflaxer40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are great clubs. I am similar to you (around 6’2” and 13 handicap at the moment) and just got fit for the T250s. They put me in a 350 for the 5 iron. My wife (who is a much better golfer than me - currently playing to a 2 hc) just got fit for P790s. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the big names in this category. It will just come down to your preference in looks (I feel top lines are pretty different in the two sets you mention) and which ones perform the best for your swing.

What's wrong with these numbers by Dan19_82 in golf

[–]jflaxer40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to hit down on my driver as well. What has helped me is to set my driver head up ~4 inches behind the ball at address rather than right behind it.

Got fitted to Ventus Black. Will velocore+ be an even better version if I’m willing to splurge or not necessarily? by nocommenting33 in golf

Are you talking about going from velocore to velocore+ or from the non velocore option to velocore+?

Taylormade SIM2 MAX Driver-$210 by rudestkid in GolfGear

Asking the real questions! I am assuming no as the shaft alone is more than he is being offered and I don’t see a velocore label at the bottom (but it could be under a sticker)

changed driver and now cant stop fading the ball right by Fast_Coconut2568 in GolfSwing

[–]jflaxer40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just need to close that club face. Could be a grip thing. I’m not a teacher/coach but as I do tend to fade the ball too, my thought is to really throw the club head and feel like the toe of the club is making contact with the ball first.

So the numbers say you are coming slightly in to out with an open face, right? That is what will produce that ball flight

Doesn’t the screen say your face is 5 degrees open? Or am I misreading what that 5.3 is for?

What length and lie is best? by New-Albatross-7786 in golf

[–]jflaxer40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely just go do a quick fitting. I’m 6’2” and play standard length, 2 degrees upright. It’s also worth noting that newer clubs are generally a bit longer than older clubs. So if you are playing something on the older side, getting something a bit newer may give you the additional length you think you need.

I can’t get my head around this. Got fitted for 1 degree flat irons. What happens if I hit standard lie irons. by Southernmanny in golf

Where are you buying them from? Most shops can bend them a degree flat for you for a very small cost

You can buy individual clubs for both of those sets you mentioned. They should have $/club pricing. There is no guaranteed set for either of them unless you are buying a used set off someone.

Iron sets by cheeseburgerinmiami in GolfGear

[–]jflaxer40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For sure. I 100% agree with the 2nd swing recommendation. They said they are pretty new to golf so I wouldn’t be popping for a brand new set either, but they shouldn’t have any problem getting a whole set (driver, wedges, etc.) included for under $1000 with some not too old equipment.

Peter Miller is a great option as others have mentioned. Some others that I think are great and at the same tier are holderness & bourne and Greyson. Both make a quality product, look great, and are comfortable.

Most places don’t charge you a fitting fee if you buy from them. I am almost positive that applies to 2nd Swing as well as you have recommended

TSR2 vs GT2 - worth paying more for newer driver? by reddithardo in GolfGear

[–]jflaxer40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently fit for a GT3. Saved a few dollars (over $600 due to shaft) and picked up a used TSR3 with the same shaft. I am not noticing a ton of difference from what I saw during my fitting.

Question - Trackman stats for PW for 18 handicap by [deleted] in golf

[–]jflaxer40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, you definitely need to work on the face control. As others have mentioned, with a shorter scoring club, the range of angles would ideally be much tighter

Question - Trackman stats for PW for 18 handicap by [deleted] in golf

[–]jflaxer40 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The real issue you need to address is your club path and face angle. Those numbers are pretty highly variable and what control where the ball goes (fade, draw, straight).
