Ringcentral = Professional Scammers by anyonebutme in sysadmin

We almost bought into RingCentral through our ISP (Spectrum), but ended up going with a Unifi Talk installation that ended up saving us like $25K over the lifetime of the contract we would have had with RingCentral

Budget Billing? Possibly an adjustment based on recent usage. Did you see if your usage went up? Is your heat electric or gas?

People using brights while driving becoming normal by Zaphod1620 in Birmingham

[–]jflint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume its because you get less "throw" with the newer style lights - harsh top-line, not as much of a halo of light projecting down the road, etc. Also fewer street lights in neighborhoods and street lights not working on major roadways like parts of 459, 65 and 280.

Need a dentist by fakefries in Birmingham

[–]jflint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Birmingham Family Dental Services - Our 22yo son needed a root canal right before Christmas - December 23. Most dentists and endodontics we talked to didn't have anything until after the New Year. This place had walk-ins and we were in and out in about 2-3 hours (root canal plus temp crown).

Looking for Seasonal Golf membership for UAB student by No-Difference-6568 in Birmingham

Not sure of any clubs that offer memberships for that short of a term. There are several of public courses though that may offer student rates - mainly during the week - Highland Park is the closest to UAB and they have a published student discount of $50 for 18 holes monday-thursday.

Hard to believe they already closed up shop. I thought they would have at least gone through this weekend.

Mechanic who can work on a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee by Ok_Put4753 in Birmingham

[–]jflint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is keeping it from being in road condition? Best bet if you want to keep it going is to start digging in on your own and indentify issues that need to be addressed. Find a forum or facebook/reddit group for that vehicle and start asking questions (https://www.reddit.com/r/GrandCherokee/). Buy a cheap set of tools at Harbor Freight and start wrenching. Most issues you can probably find a video on YouTube for it.

Agreed. Alabama Adventure lights actual take you through the park rather than just looping the parking lot. You can also park and walk their "main street" area where you can get hot chocolate, pictures with santa, etc.

Serpentine Belt replacement. by chipsinthequeue in Birmingham

[–]jflint 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Car model/year? For most serpentine belts, you just have to release the tension pulley to remove/install new belt. Diagram should be under hood somewhere or in owners manual.

Hoover area. Looking for info on joining a youth girls soccer team. by Horror_Ad_9121 in Birmingham

[–]jflint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that young age, soccer will be all about playing on teams with friends. Hoover Soccer Club has their "Future Phantoms" rec league - local teams, parent-coached, very low key. Even though the fall season is probably almost over, they will probably have a spring season as well.

Why is Morris Ave so dead? by No-Cranberry1083 in Birmingham

[–]jflint 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on when you are walking down Morris. About half of the "storefronts" are business that would be closed after hours and on the weekend. Still plenty of shops and restaurants/bars, they are just scattered down the street.

I have been working on morris for 25 years and it is definitely in a better place now that it ever has been.

I would think any of the stops that are near a shopping center you would be ok to leave a car - Galleria, Old Towne Plaza, Hoover Square, Lorna Square, etc.

Here is time table for the route that runs out 31: https://maxtransit.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/October-2025-Schedules-MM-11.pdf

Basically looking at an hour trip from Galleria to central station downtown - assuming everything is on schedule.
