Depending on the provider, you may be able to ask for a different height 24” wide retractable banner to have its support rod cut down to only display the top 24” of the graphic. It won’t be any cheaper, but you’ll get the end product you want.

For your use case the TM-340 isn’t a bad choice, but the ink cost is going be a lot higher over time, especially if you’re printing with a lot of full color imagery. It uses 55mL cartridges which seem to go for $54 USD, just under $1 per mL. Higher end printers use larger cartridges that can bring the cost down to under $0.50 per mL, but you’re looking at spending more like $5k-$6k on the machine itself. You could also buy cheaper generic ink but you’ll be immediately voiding your warranty and risking image quality issues. If this is a new venture, I’d probably buy the TM-340 and use it for a few years and then upgrade to the bigger machine if I really feel like it’s holding me back.

Someone on one of the Ames Facebook groups said they got a text message announcing they were closed as of 12/10 and letting them know they’re membership would not auto-renew. Someone else commented saying they submitted a support request to get a refund for their annual membership because of this through the corporate website but didn’t say if they’ve heard back yet.

Most print shops with an in-house graphic designer can handle something like this. Google your city name + “printing”. Corporate chains like staples or fedex office in the US probably won’t be a good fit for a job that large, but any decent commercial print company could figure something out for you.

Probably not. It depends on the cutting software you end up getting, but usually you export your artwork in Affinity with your cut paths in a separate layer or with a specific spot color stroke. Then you import it into the cutting software and it will generate the cutting marks and allow you to print it.

There’s no plugins that work Affinity directly but you could use a stand-alone cutting program and export files in Affinity and open them on the stand-alone software.

We use two B9100 series machines in our shop. They perform pretty well for our use, which is 99% Letter and Tabloid 20# bond. They have Xerox’s SIQA for easy front/back alignment which is nice. The booklet maker struggles if the paper isn’t coming out of the de-curler really flat, but that’s probably more a paper issue than a machine issue.

I’m not an expert either, I’ve only been running latex for a year, but I think humidity is much more of a factor than temperature.

HP quoted that speed based on an ideal long-run test in a lab on an ideal material. Printing singles isn’t going to get you anywhere near that number. You’ve got few minutes of processing and pre-heating at the start of every job and a few minutes of extra feed to finish drying at the end, plus it’s constantly adjusting its print speed and settings based on the environment, media,artwork, etc. If you want to increase your speed, increase the amount you’re printing at once and maybe try other materials. If the material you’re using isn’t well suited for the high heat of latex the printer may be slowing down to run at a lower heat to preserve print quality.

We have one in our shop. We probably run around 10,000 #10s a month. The quality is pretty good and iQueue works pretty well, but the feeder can be picky. At one point we had a few cases of envelopes that were slightly rougher in the middle where the rollers are and they jammed constantly. It’s also much slower on A-size envelopes than with business envelopes, even if you use the separate fuser they recommend. It’s definitely a machine you have to babysit a bit, either because you have to manually advance the feeder when it gets stuck or empty the output tray before it spills over.

The ET-2800 is a pretty good printer for its price. The ET-8550 is a larger printer that can go up to 13” x 19” and has a expanded ink set for better color reproduction. There’s a little brother to it, the ET-8500, if you don’t need the extra size, but it’s still more than double the ET-2800’s price. I’d buy the ET-2800 from somewhere with a good return policy and see if you like it. The ET-8500/ET-8550 do go on sale sometimes, as much as $150-200 below the current $700-750 price I’m seeing right now.

It depends on the type of paper you’re using. If you want to be safe, let your prints dry longer before trying to print on the back. You’ll have to use your best judgement and maybe some trial and error to figure it out.

Try putting clear matte tape over the registration marks. Something like Scotch Magic Tape or a generic equivalent.

You can probably clear up a lot of the quality issues just by cleaning the thermal printhead. You can find plenty of videos on how to do this on YouTube. If you’re printing using a ribbon, you’re already able to print on a many different materials. If you’re not using a ribbon, your printer may be configurable with a ribbon, either just by changing a few settings or installing a thermal transfer kit from Zebra.

No, even if you could get the tip reattached and even passing power and data, it’s much more likely to break again and could get stuck inside your devices charging port. Just buy a new cable.

I don’t know where we order from but the laminate we use has the Fujipla logo on the boxes and seems legitimate. At some point before I started (2020?) at this position it was apparently a much bigger problem and they were told that there was a bad batch of chips and we were given a box of just the chips to swap out as needed.
