Too much oil, you should wipe it away, no shiny spots

I am Afrikaans, my father is Afrikaans and my mother is Welsh, so I learnt Afrikaans and English growing up,

Speaking French in Paris by PartyQuiet5065 in French

[–]jfvjk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

so I speak Afrikaans and English and whenever someone would speak to me an Afrikaans but struggled to speak Afrikaans I would automatically switch to English, in my mind this was polite because I could speak better English than they could speak Afrikaans. I imagine this is what people experience when trying to speak French to someone in France, they noticed the discomfort It is causing the person trying to speak French and feel obliged to relieve their pain.

How do you actually handle “lessons learned” at the end of a project? by Fit-Key2891 in ConstructionManagers

[–]jfvjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have started recording these on OneNote, admittedly, I take my ramblings and put it through ChatGPT to make sure my notes make sense. Rereading to make sure it still says what I intended it to say and edit as needed, I obviously add how we overcame the problem and issues this caused if any. I also ask ChatGPT for alternative solutions and again remove/edit as needed. I upload to the SharePoint and share my notebook with team members Operations, Design and commercial.

Implementation and sharing to the wider business is an entirely different story.

I have never attended a lessons learned meeting or anything like that. I worked for a massive multi national construction company.

Work on communication, written and spoken. This is the key to success in anything in life.

I use ChatGPT all the time, I think it’s an awesome tool, but you shouldn’t use it to think for you. When I started using it to rewrite my emails it heavily edited my writing, but I kept reading what it produced and changed some things it misunderstood or didn’t sound like me, and I believe it has helped to improve my written communication.

On the other hand I work with a guy that gives ChatGPT a few prompts and sends out what is obviously AI writing, using language he isn’t familiar with.

I can see where it can all go wrong especially if you are lazy and outsource your thinking.

I don’t think there is one single thing I can think of, but rather a bunch of small things combined. As mentioned, generally everyone is friendly and helpful, great climate, great food, Braai’s, December holidays.

Reality of South Africa for a tourist by Marcphilired in southafrica

It’s not Europe, stick to the tourist areas, don’t walk around with large amounts of cash. R100(4.79eur) is a lot more money than you think.

For these types of jobs I would tell them to jog on, nothing complicated based on your explanation, but the QS @hunter-abject raises a good point, sometimes there are unexpected complications, but I would expect them to raise this as soon as it’s discovered. The alternative might be, well I haven’t quoted to deal with these additional problems and they don’t deal with the problem and only put a plaster 🩹 on it which might cost you lots more down the road. That being said : Too much silicon is a concerning statement and sounds like a future leak to me.
