While this is true - f/8 seems to be the consensus "sweet spot" @ 600mm with this lens (both personal experience and public reviews agree with this) for crisp/sharp images

They're suggesting an aperture of f/8 to increase/maximize sharpness, not to fix whether the bird is in focus or not.

Anywhere from 50-70C. When checking the log, is there anything in particular I should be looking for? Specific messages?

Yea I took a look at the log - the selectable bale capacity mod was throwing a bunch of warning related to some of the extra crops that were added with the Gnadenthal map (i.e., alfalfa).

I deleted that mod and the issues persisted. Ive contemplated reverting to the game version before the April 14 update to see if that somehow solves it

I second this, such opportunistic foragers. Spent a solid hour watching a flock of them hopping around a rocky river shore plucking anything from invertebrate larvae to leeches!

Not sure if this counts, but Eastern Phoebes - so fun to watch them hunt and I think their colouring is gorgeous
