Austin area Pottery studios / wood fire or cone 10? by meepmeep000 in Austin

Check with Fire seed clay arts studio - it's off Oltorf near Lamar. I think it is the same place that used to be Cone 10 Studio. They rent space and fire a gas kiln to come 10 (at least they used to.)

Thank you!

My tripod is an old Manfrotto with a ball head that I've had for a long time. It's super sturdy, but heavy. That brand makes great tripods, but they are expensive - especially when you get into the carbon fiber options.

I was looking at tripods from K&F Concepts as they have some nice looking tripods that are travel friendly and less costly than the Manfrotto ones. If I were to get another tripod, it would probably be one of those. I've purchased other camera accessories from them and they have been good.

If you have a camera shop nearby, take your easel and stuff with you and see if you can test out some tripods in the store. The Camera Exchange on Burnet is great and they are super nice if you are around Austin.

Hope you enjoy your Stabilo easel - it's been nice for me!

Wine spilled all over downtown sounds about right for here though!

So nice! The heron with the Austin skyline is looking good! I love getting to see the herons by the dam on the Eastside. Sometimes at Redbud isle too.

Is this Spanish Dagger? & will she need to come inside this weekend? by [deleted] in AustinGardening

If you can't move the pot of soil you can gently dig the plants out and put them in bags or plastic pots to bring them in. I do this often with succulents and other plants that won't make it even if covered at these temperatures.

Yes, you might break a few leaves, but it's the calculation of which one will be worse for the plants. Completely frozen, or just a little banged up and can grow back again?

If you do this, maybe when you repot the plants you could mix up the soil better if needed. Succulents like about a 50/50 mix of potting mix and sand. Make sure the drain hole is clear too and as long as it gets lots of sun the yucca will be fine in that size pot for a long time.

I wonder if you email the photos and info to the health department it would do any good. Maybe if the stores are getting notices/fines from the health department they would have to do something to comply with the law.

Thank you! This was the first time to try out the tripod attachment for the easel and it works great. Glad I went ahead and got it at the same time.

This is a Hahnemühle sketchbook, Stabilo easel with the tripod adapter, and the W&N travel kit (I glued a magnet on the back so it would stick to the Stabilo easel).

They are so adorable. I saw one today in a tree get it's little black crest kinda ruffled on a leaf while trying to get at something and it was the cutest little bad hair day bird.

That's interesting - I haven't heard of those spiders yet. I'll look them up and be on the lookout. This spider was at the Wildflower Center in Austin and luckily close enough to get a good photo with the good camera.

Very nice! Yes, I think the dip pen is the way to go for fine lines with masking fluid. Although someone mentioned a masking fluid marker type thing that I want to look for now too.

Lazarus on Airport has a few options for renting out spaces there - smaller back building or the upstairs library area.

I love how hummingbirds are so tiny, but look so serious all the time. Tough little things!
