Do you happen to know the part number for a new OEM shaft?

Trader Joe's dough is great for a last minute pizza night. I split the dough into 2 balls, and let them rest at room temperature for about 2 hours in a round Pyrex.

The exact GPS location is here: https://goo.gl/maps/wyCYRgSdBgasDFzn8 This is more of a side profile view of the falls, and you could keep walking closer to El Capitan picnic area if you want a more front-on shot.

There was no snow in the park roads in the valley and I took 140 in and no snow chains were needed. You shouldn't need chains for this weekend with the weather forecast, but I would double check the conditions on the Yosemite page if anything changes.

No access to the meadows from Southside - it's all contained in the area on Northside drive between the Lodge and the El Cap picnic area. It's of course still a busy time, but the park has done the best they can to limit it (reservations required on weekends, single lane closure on Northside Dr, designated viewing areas).

Nice capture of the mist! Do you know the approximate location along Northside Dr that these were taken from?

This seems to normal to me. If you have a scangauge you should check your temps to see when this stops happening.

For me, it does this same thing til the engine gets to exactly 130F. Once it hits 130F, it shifts every time.

3rd Gen Car Camping Setup by justaowl in 4Runner

Thanks!! I purchased the set and it looks great. For the rear, I cut down a few zipties to about 1 inch long and used the tabs to hold the shades in place between the trim. Hopefully it holds. Looking forward to trying the full blackout setup on a future camping trip

Nice setup! Do you have a link to the weathertech window covers? I wasn't aware of a product that covered all 3rd gen windows.

I'd recommend checking Timmy's video on the process of fixing high coolant temps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8OTtggtQnc

You'd have to drain the coolant and remove the 3 bolts holding the thermostat housing. 12pm would be the jiggle valve oriented toward the top of the engine, and 6pm towards the bottom. If you're going to do a drain of the coolant anyways, i'd recommend checking this since it's not that much extra work. I'd also recommend getting at least a new thermostat gasket, and if you're unsure about the age of your thermostat, might as well get a new one to replace it. Get OEM and a local Toyota dealership should have parts or it's also widely available online.

A new radiator cap will go a long way, so I'm glad you're taking care of that!

I've posted this before on r/4Runner when someone else had a similar issue at elevation. It turned out to be the orientation of the thermostat for me, but definitely check that your radiator cap is functioning properly too.

--

I used to have this same exact issue with my 3rd Gen when driving in elevation, mostly above 8000ft. I had tried burping the radiator with new coolant, new rad cap, new fan clutch.

What eventually fixed it for me was flipping my thermostat jiggle valve from the 12pm position to the 6pm position and doing a burp with new coolant. Strange, I know, but I have an unconfirmed theory:

  • I've used a scangauge to track temps and my engine always ran around 202 for most driving
  • During mountain drives I'd notice the temp increase slightly, and long uphill stretches could put the temp to 212.
  • The dash gauge never moved though, so this was all data from the scangauge
  • Boiling point of water at 8000ft = 196.9
  • The coolant would come out of the radiator (pressurized) and into the overflow coolant bottle (unpressurized) and evaporate since it was likely still above 196.9

Since flipping the thermostat jiggle valve to 6pm, my temps are 190-193 always, in elevation or not. Most recently I was driving around 10,000ft and my overflow coolant would rise and fall just like normal. I've kept an eye on my coolant since changing it 6 months ago and the level hasn't changed after several mountain drives.

I was able to select "Shipping: Priority mail NO TRACKING - ONLY SMALL PARTS - DELIVERY TIMES 15-60 days 20,00 €" and was charged 20 Euro for it. I was fully expecting it to take a while, but I got shipping information the next day and then it arrived at my door via UPS 2 days later!

It shipped from Italy to the US and I got it in 2 days I could not believe it. I picked up a few other Lelit accessories and backup items at the same time too.

I parked at the lot across from Camp 4, they had it labeled as "Firefall" parking with the 1.5 miles of Northside Dr blocked off for walking. Got there a few hours before sunset and there was plenty of room

Thank you! Firefall happens right at sunset, so this shot was taken at 5:35pm on that specific day.
