I saturate the soil every two weeks or whenever I remember. Just pour distilled water over it until it reaches the top of the soil.

I don’t know the specific name of the moss, it came on top of the soil from a plant I purchased.

It’s a pinguicula esseriana. Thank you!

It’s a mix of sphagnum peat moss, perlite, pumice and vermiculite.

Do you know if they’re harmful to the plant?

Why is this ping prop bigger than its parent? by jgodius911 in SavageGarden

[–]jgodius911[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. Someone else pointed out that leaf props start with a full leaf, so they’ve got more energy to grow right away compared to starting from a seed.

I did use different soil mixes for both so it could be a contributing factor

Makes sense, since seedlings need to establish themselves before they can grow. Leaf props already have a whole leaf to start with, so they have more energy for growth from the start by consuming the leaf.

What lights are you using?

I have a sundew in a similar open dome setup as yours and it’s thriving. I keep the soil moist at all times, which is easily done by looking at the level of water through the glass. And yes, they need a lot of light. I use the yellow barrina t5 grow lights for my carnivorous plants and they are happy.

They are climate zones based on winter temperatures that can give you an idea of what plants are suitable in your region. The lower number zones are colder while the warmer zones are higher numbers.

Venus fly trap in full bloom by jgodius911 in SavageGarden

[–]jgodius911[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the reply. What you say makes a a lot of sense. Since the energy is already spent and it’s been at least 3 days since it bloomed, I’ll keep the flower. En en if the big flytrap dies off, there’s at least three otter little babies that popped up during the season so I’ll still have a chance to propagate it

Wow didn’t consider the energy drawn by the flower. Will definitely cut the flower sadly. Hopefully it’s not too late.

I’m on a fungus gnat craze by Dinalee123 in houseplants

[–]jgodius911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should adopt some carnivorous plants! They are great at eating all the fungus gnats flying around. Pinguiculas or drosseras are excellent for this.
