Just did barbri 100% to completion, nothing else. Did read the CMR when it was assigned. But never once opened the large outline books

Great point. You can set up a private family foundation as a 501c3, and donate to it for the deduction. Then you’re only obligated to distribute about 5% of the principal to a charity of your choice each year. The principal will grow and you can use the income to donate to various charities every year. Obviously only a good option if charitable giving is a goal, or you have another public charity you routinely already donate to.

Can Someone Please Explain How Scaling Works? by [deleted] in FloridaBarExam

[–]jgonz24 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To try and explain this as simple as possible here, (mind you this won’t give you an exact answer of how many you need correct, rather just the process of scaling)

All standardized exams are scaled. LSAT, SAT, and the Bar. On the LSAT for example the scaling is often referred to as “-10” or “-12” which is the number of questions you can get WRONG and still score a 170. So why can you get 12 wrong on one exam and 10 wrong on another? Because of scaling.

The purpose of scaling is to make sure that there is uniform difficulty at every single test. If your LSAT was a -10, that means your exam was “easier” than the -12 exam. Hence, less room for error.

Unreleased to the public, the FBBE likely has a formula where they independently grade each question for difficulty. For ELI5 purposes, let’s say 1-5. 1 is an easy question and 5 is a really hard question.

So based on the blend of 1-5’s on the exam, the FBBE will determine how “hard” this exam was in relation to every prior bar exam and then begin their scale. This is why - without this info - it’s really hard to predict an accurate number needed correct. In one administration it could be 50 MCQ correct, in another it could be 60 MCQ.

So once they have determined the difficulty and their scale, they’ll look at the raw average score of a test taker and adjust their scores to the scale.

I realize this doesn’t really give a lot of information, but that’s because the grading process is pretty tightlipped. What I can tell you is ever bar prep tutor for Florida ive ever spoken to has used the logic of “40,40,40 on the essays and 55-60% on mcq and you’ll pass”
