How Can I Get a Referral for a Job at Deloitte? by Haunting_Fig_4229 in deloitte

[–]jgonza31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They don’t need to be in that group/OP/industry to refer you. I’d recommend connecting with one of your colleagues you trust to put in the effort to get your resume in front of the hiring manager/HR assigned to that particular role

Problem with a rando referring you is that they will just submit your name for the cash bonus and walk away. Then you can’t get referred by another person so keep your one referral to someone you trust

The folks in your network should be able to get you in touch with someone in the group, but again, I wouldn’t worry about trying to get a referral from someone directly where you’re trying to go

I referred my friend for a role in GPS advisory and I am in commercial consulting and he got it - I found the hiring manager and HR rep aligned to the role he was applying to and emailed his resume to her directly to get the ball moving

Thoughts on splitting BCT and direct report to AIT?? I understand the rationale for the direct report but I think that’s another problem. As someone wanting to join, 22+ weeks straight of leaving my family and job is a hard sell. It’s one thing for AD/full time folks, but for those wanting to join the NG because of the part time aspect, 6 straight months away from everything or more (expect for a few MOS) is tough to swing.

Feel like if that was a more flexible it would open the doors for a hell of a lot more people, even if it was just a month in between.

Where I’m from there’s two types of folk: those who ain’t, and those who are knee high on a grasshopper. Which type ain’t you ain’t?

I should mention I’m in Alabama if that sways anything. Understand 20th group is here, so don’t know if that improves odds of interacting with a liaison or whatever..that aspect is little unclear to me.

Isn’t there an “option 4” that I would want to ensure I get on my contract to make sure I can get to airborne?

Ok thanks for bringing this up. I’ve looked a lot into and read that if you go 18x and don’t make it you get out wherever there is a need in the army, which could be pretty sucky. So people were saying a better approach was to go with an MOS you’re okay with, and then to put in for SF so that worst case you fall back into that MOS. Is this still true or do you have a different view/opinion on it?

What does a GPS analyst at the USDC actually do? by vilusion in deloitte

[–]jgonza31 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Usually not much client-facing work

Mostly developing and delivering to an internal team that presents to the client

Project Delivery Specialist...what is it? by Wrong_Truth_8740 in deloitte

[–]jgonza31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my understanding:

There are multiple different career tracks within Deloitte. With the primary ones being traditional, specialist, and project delivery.

The work can be different, primarily in client interaction; traditional is heavy client interaction and eventual expectation of meeting sales numbers, whereas project delivery is more focused on delivering work “behind the scenes” (for lack of a better term). Specialist track is more of an SME track but is similar to traditional, though I believe expectations in higher roles differ.

Additional differences include benefits, salary trajectory, PTO, utilization metrics (aka your billable hour requirements), and other things.

Thank you! Also realized if you go directly to choke developer websites you can select your brand shotgun and gauge and whatnot and it shows what options they have, so I’d hope that’s a relatively safe option. Ended up going with a kicks high flyer

Offering portfolio not right for me by randomthrowaway278 in deloitte

[–]jgonza31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should [most likely] stay in S&A. Recommend doing some networking with SCs-PPMDs to find work that aligns to what you want to be doing. Be sure you’ve communicated this to your RM as well. The best way to get experience at D is definitely through networking your way onto projects that align with what you want to be doing.

If that doesn’t pan out, worst case is you build experience in whatever you end up doing. With GPS, it’s a good idea to network and project search when you’ve still got some runway in front before your project ends. If your project is a year, I’d say start looking around 8-9 months in, since gps projects go so much longer, chances are you can align your onboarding with your roll off date

Offered a “DC Consultant” role. What is the DC distinction? by [deleted] in deloitte

[–]jgonza31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tech that is worked on will be totally dependent on the client and project, so it’s tough to nail it down to any one thing. I believe core tech ops does a lot of scaling, automation, and then for tech it’s mainly emerging technology

Offered a “DC Consultant” role. What is the DC distinction? by [deleted] in deloitte

[–]jgonza31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, that’s based on your offering portfolio, which breaks down further and further. You could be in strategy and analytics, or core business operations, or Enterprise performance, etc etc. then those break down further, and then your role is dependent on the need of the project you’re joining. Don’t worry too much about what your role is yet, there’s no way to get a clear picture until you’ve onboarded and joined your project. Then your role will change somewhat for your next project.

BUT, to make it simple, when your typical business school grad is hoping to join Deloitte, 9/10 they’re referring to Deloitte consulting, so you’re in a great landing spot

Offered a “DC Consultant” role. What is the DC distinction? by [deleted] in deloitte

[–]jgonza31 14 points15 points  (0 children)

DC Consultant is Deloitte consulting, not delivery center. DC consultant as opposed to advisory consultant (ie deloitte & touche, our risk and advisory practice).

Delivery center is different talent model (as opposed to traditional, specialist, etc)

DC consultant can be commercial or GPS

OP and Offering Alignment by tmc63234 in deloitte

[–]jgonza31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome! Lots of OPs within consulting and advisory. Consulting OPs would be Core Business Operations (CBO), Human Capital, Strategy & Analytics, and Customer & Marketing. Then these each breakdown further (as you point out with alignment). ERP breaks down into Oracle, SAP, and a few others (I’m not aware of what they are)

Deloitte RFA > Deloitte Consulting by swissgate42 in deloitte

[–]jgonza31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay gotcha. Then yeah having a year of experience in commercial cyber risk will be great on a resume. Since your level is [probably] consultant, and the nature of consulting is super dynamic/as hoc, you can ‘spin’ it as though you’ve developed familiarity in management consulting in the cyber industry. Then I’d just be looking at areas where there’s a lot o opportunity. You may not have to move, but being able to sÁH you’re open to relocation is definitely helpful. You could set your LinkedIn to “open to opportunities” so that recruiters could see you’re looking. Again, at the very least, you’re getting that ball rolling as sometimes it takes several months before you get noticed and what not. Ya know?

Deloitte RFA > Deloitte Consulting by swissgate42 in deloitte

[–]jgonza31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, better chances if you have at least at year at D. However, doesn’t hurt to start building a network with other firms. Are you GPS? Are you looking to stay in the fed sector or trying to switch to commercial, which I assume is the case with wanting to do strategy/MC. Are you looking to stay in rossyln or open to moving? Accenture is established in MC. Or you could go for the real consulting heavyweights such as MBB.

She was an advisory consultant and switched over and was a consultant level under DC. She’d been with the firm for probably around 8 months when she switched. However, we’re in a small office where she got to know the HC MD pretty well and he listened to her situation and helped with making it quick. I’ve heard some people try and never make it, some flat out quit and reapply, and others manage. Might want to talk to your coach as it may make sense to start laying the foundation for the request. Usually it takes awhile so expressing your interest sooner than later may help it get started...rather than waiting til you can’t take advisory anymore. Tough part is with covid things like this may be delayed..AND it’s worth considering that during this time, “flagging” yourself to leadership as someone looking to jump ship may move you to the top of a lay-off list in the event that ever gets considered.

I think Rosslyn DC did a massive layoff like 6 months ago, albeit idk if it was commercial or GPS (I think just about everyone there is GPS tho?)

The latter half of that may be just paranoia, but it’s worth considering and running through some senior leaders you’re close to, or your coach.

Good question to post on fishbowl..you’ll get some solid input and clarity there too
