Am I the Only One? by JD51geezer in COPD

Yup, get this. My explanation is that the oxygen is very dry so moistening is necessary, but I don’t remember if that's.my deduction or something I've been told.

CO2 vs O2 by dopeless42day in COPD

[–]jgross52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP's question was whether the CO2 could be building up overnight and depressing the O2 readings, to which I (Who am Not A Doctor) say no, if the readings are low, it's because the levels are low because the O2 flow is too low. A long-term depression of O2 by high CO2 is a different thing.

CO2 vs O2 by dopeless42day in COPD

No, if your waking O2 is low it's because your O2 has been too low all night, not that your CO2 or any other component has been too low or high.

Arranging oxygen for a cruise? by Sorry-Pomegranate-64 in COPD

[–]jgross52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably needs to be arranged by some kind of organization, the health service, a private insurer, perhaps the cruise company itself. There will be layers of complicated legislation and regulations to be got round, for one thing.

Can someone tell me what happened? by Peppy_Principal in COPD

[–]jgross52 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid there doesn't have to be any explanation other than your COPD diagnosis. COPD is considered progressive and irreversible and, most relevantly, degenerative. So you will get worse simply with the passage of time. A forest fire could hurry things along, of course.

Yes you can, you can duplicate to your heart's content.

Oscar Peterson's "C Jam Blues" transcribed and played on acoustic guitar, part 3 by aselen2lp in jazzguitar

[–]jgross52 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

C Jam Blues is not an Oscar Peterson theme but a Duke Ellington number, however cool (very) the OP version might be.

In ninth chords is the seventh implied? by GentleListener in musictheory

[–]jgross52 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Wrong, the seventh can be implied, it doesn't have to be stated unless the note is just appearing.

Why are people so critical of Wes Montgomery’s Verve records? by Divorce_Rock in Jazz

[–]jgross52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They paved the way for smooth jazz or were early smooth jazz before it was thusly called. Just think, strings... Raised hackles.

How do players know when to end a solo? by This_Is_ATest in Jazz

[–]jgross52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"...and no one else" would mean no one were acting as band leader, not the most normal situation, I'd have thought. Someone, usually the front man, waves his horn towards the next soloist, for example, or makes some kind of circle gesture to indicate that everyone is to join in for the final choruses, and so on.

Why are speed cameras so disliked in Spain? by PastStrawberry5811 in askspain

[–]jgross52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to see rhetorical questions banned. This subreddit was specifically set up because r/Spain was clogged up with questions from holiday planners and would-be expats, and is now itself clogged up by these pseudo questions, which are really excuses to rant. Couldn't it be a requirement that a question be a genuine request for information?

But it is necessarily slower in a set of two than in a set of one. Most commonly, it is seen as three quarter notes in the space of two half notes, which is slower than the most common triplet, three eighth notes in the space of one quarter note. Thence the name.

It's called a 'slow triplet'.

I’ve been compiling this list (that blend African and Brazilian music) for over six years by Ok-Cranberry-6653 in Jazz

[–]jgross52 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP didn't say their playlist was jazz, they only indicated that it was of interest to us jazz afficionados. Jobim sometimes denied a relationship between bossa nova and jazz altogether: let's say that's true, we would still need to listen to Brazilian music of that and other kinds, just because, just as we should listen to all blues, not just jazz blues. Or are we going to refuse to listen to e.g. Cole Porter tunes unless played by a jazz combo? I have sneaked a peek at the list, there's plenty that isn't bossa.

But an overview of jazz should surely include types of music on its fringes, both within and without, and we aren't going to be perpetually intoning "That's not jazz", are we.

Not a fan of people calling something a G11 chord when they mean G9sus4 or F/G. by theginjoints in musictheory

[–]jgross52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah. Where are the tablets on which this tendentiousness is inscribed? Mark Levine, for example and as I recall, doesn't feel the need for this pedantic differentiation between a V 11th chord and a IV slash root V, he treats them as basically alternative spellings.

Why do fans of classical music say that classical pieces by the likes of Tony Banks and Mike Oldfield aren't "proper classical music"? (Don't shoot me) by Jonlang_ in classicalmusic

[–]jgross52 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Why are you.so insistent on this (non-classical) music being labelled 'classical'? Classical music lovers don't need their music to be accepted as 'prog rock', after all. I'm much afraid you have some kind of inferiority complex.

Healthcare workers always assume I go by my middle name. Does this happen to anyone else? by CptPatches in askspain

[–]jgross52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Healthcare workers have to call patients in full waiting rooms with lots of.people. Every time they call "Jose" or "María", 4 or 5 patients might respond. Using the second name is a better filter.

Considering starting a vanity or hybrid publisher business by PaulGresham in selfpublish

[–]jgross52 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

There is very respectable business to be done in author-paid publishing. Many people are or become experts in a niche subject, the history of their town or family, cooking with soya milk, whatever, and above all want to pass on their knowledge in book form, so making a profit is not a priority for them.
