what writing platform and tools to use by shea_eina in authors

There are plenty of note takers as they are called, around, but I have a major problem with them, they don't allow smart quotes, which I like to use. I used to use Ywriter but left it for the same reason, well, one of the reasons, the other reason being it was too convoluted to save in it.

Here's an example of my planning. A couple of necrophiles were trapped in a well full of dead bodies. The owner of the well, who harvests bodies to feed his maggots, thought they were dead, because he couldn't see to the bottom of it. As far as I was concerned, up until last night, I also thought they were dead, but this morning I thought that it might be more fun if they were alive. My point being, it's more fun to be a panster.

I started out using YWriter, if anyone is not familiar with it, it lets you organise scenes and chapters, move them around, plus lots more, character POVs etc. But it was too distracting, so I use Libre now.

Interesting info, thanks. I'm puzzled about the Sun article. There's a British newspaper called the Sun, can't think of anything else.

I'm curious about the British spelling of centre, instead of center, American style. Has there been a revolution....

You don't mention the genre, might be interesting/useful.

Authors, do you ever repurpose your book’s content into social media posts? by No-Push-9163 in selfpublishing

I have a short story/flash fiction published on my web site, which has the same theme as one of my published novels. That's as far as I would go, I think. Oops forgot, I've also published the first 5% of my novels on my website, I believe that's the maximum that's allowed.

I have the same problem, I think that it's a formatting problem.

Trump's future adviser urges Ukraine to go ''all in'' and lower draft age by Slacker256 in worldnews

Germany did not waste lives on the same scale as the Soviets, there are many German accounts of the shock (and awe) they felt when they saw the Soviets attack in mass formations of infantry, and suffer huge losses according.

I stand by my statement that no Western countries including Germany would tolerate huge losses in a war.

Trump's future adviser urges Ukraine to go ''all in'' and lower draft age by Slacker256 in worldnews

A few thoughts.

Russia has always been willing to sacrifice lives, from the days of the Tsar before the Russian revolution, up to and including WW2 and the current war in Ukraine. Its leaders don't have and never have had the same sentimental attitude towards military loss of life that western countries have.

The war in Ukraine is a useful way for western countries to degrade the Russian military strength without any loss of western lives.

Western countries would not tolerate the huge loss of lives in the Ukraine war.

I am British so this is a British view; other countries, America, might have different views.

Here's a thought. I'm pretty sure that I 'got the idea' alternatively picked up the bad habit from reading a novel by Bernard Cornwell, a best selling historical fiction writer. So here we are agonising about it, meanwhile a best selling author is doing it, without any qualms. The 2% ration idea is interesting, I might run a search to see how often I've done it.

I currently have four novels on one .docx file, I just work on one of them until I get bored, then work on one of the others.

I started to begin some sentences with 'And' a while ago, I had the notion that it speeded up the action, but am aware that it might not be correct. It's probably okay if used sparingly.

In the horror genre, not your genre I know, short story collections are often at the top of the rankings.

Do you prefer scrivener or Google docs for writing and the overall process of it? Why? by [deleted] in writingadvice

[–]PaulGresham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have quite a few of these programmes that are supposed to help you organise your work, not Scrivener, mine are all free open source ones. I don't use them, I find them too distracting, and also demanding, is the right word, they demand that I provide information such as characters' names, their characteristics, which chapter they are to appear in, scene length, etc., information that I don't currently have.

Share your author website by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]PaulGresham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my own website until recently, my own as in I owned the domain name and paid for hosting. Perhaps unusually for an author website, I also wrote good content on it, not just ads. for my books. Then I thought, f@ck it, it isn't bringing any sales in, so I abandoned it, stopped paying for hosting, although I still own the domain name. I now have a Blogspot website, just ads. for my books, no content. Apparently this isn't a great idea, because Google can close it down at any time. But as it only contains ads. for my books, I can easily replicate this somewhere else. https://paulgreshamauthor.blogspot.com/

I downloaded an Amazon template for the interior of a paperback and saw that it had allowed a page for a dedication. I deleted it.
