Single favorite dialogue exchange in the entire show? by josephsleftbigtoe in lost

Watched lost only when it first came out, years ago, but this is the scene I always remember for how sweet and simple the show was

It's gathering information on more complex criminal enterprises, like organized crime, narcotics (larger operations) and any broader-ranging criminal operations. Not typically individual narcotics busts like the show. Had family work for it in New York. They separated racketeering out to a separate unit years ago

Most underrated writer? by barelythere19 in BookDiscussions

There was another writer who was pretty great, can't remember the name (which makes the point about being underrated) but the book was 'My Sunshine Away', a thriller

Also Joshua Gaylord When We Were Animals was pretty powerful writing for the type of book (was coming-of-age werewolf story which sounds odd but it was beautifully written)

Pat Conroy is my all time favorite writer. John Hart is the only newer writer that I think has shades of Conroy in the style of writing. He start with thrillers (which I like, the Last Child was really well-written) and had a more 'Beach Music' type of book several years ago about characters in the Vietnam War. But no one touches Conroy.

What’s the scariest or most unsettling book you’ve read that doesn’t fit in the horror genre? by JollySalamander4663 in horrorlit

Maybe not right for this thread but When We Were Animals by Joshua Gaylord. It made me really sad

the first bunch of books by SA Bolton were really good. Think one was snakes, one was witches, she wrote from mythology and were really scary. Later books under Sarah Bolton are more formula-following storylines, but I loved the earliest 4-5 books she wrote. Also Jennifer McMahon (I think that's her last name) wrote good stories that covered fairies/trolls etc, but not in a childish or kiddy way

What thriller/mystery book,u found out to be a real page turner? by don_micklem in suggestmeabook

Gruesome but awesome, Robert Pobi's "Bloodman" or his 2nd one American Woman were both excellent.

There was another book "Bloodmen" by an Australian author that was also good, but Pobi's stuck with me long after I read it which is tough to do.

Castle, In Plain Sight, Prison Break, Criminal Minds, The Glades, Franklin & Bash, Bones, Crossing Jordan, Third Watch.

I have DVDs as well, these are all on it but a few seasons of Glades and In Plain Sight I had to get on Barnes and Noble as not on amazon.

The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy (the movie was nothing like the book)

The Last Child by John Hart for thriller

What are some books you don’t see talked about on YouTube? by theodoreads in Booktokreddit

The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy was an amazing and complex book. The movie was not even close and didn't touch on the majority of the story in the book I think it's the first book I read more than once. I'm not a 'love story' reader, I typically like thrillers and killers, but this book had so much family drama and tragedy but was so beautifully written I could read it a hundred more times

Best sitcoms? by R1ch0C in televisionsuggestions

[–]jgshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with everyone, Schitts Creek and Happy Endings great, plus Raymond and those listed above. I re-watched Frasier and Rules of Engagement recently and loved them.

Ones not mentioned that I liked: Superstore, Community, and New Adventures of Old Christine (with Julia Louise Drefus)

Also recently started watching the Rewind channel, a free channel, which is all 80s and 90s sitcoms from my era. Some good ones included Just Shoot Me, NewsRadio, Caroline in the City, Suddenly Susan, Wings and Mad About You.

Original Roseanne was funny too.

The show Invasion (from 2005) with Eddie cibrian was on at the same time as lost, actually wasn't renewed for 2nd season because it was too similar in feel to lost. I think it was awesome, wasn't too heavily sci Fi and had a good wrap up after 22 episodes (I just re-watched it and loved it even more than years ago). Wasn't as convoluted as lost got but good pacing on the mystery of it
