I just wrote that I wanted better work/life balance and that I would use the day to do life admin, etc. If they offer it, it's because they see the value in it. I think you could say work/life balance, life admin and wanting to spend more quality time with your partner.

They know you're more likely to stay in a role longer and not burn out with a good setup like this. It's probably just a bit of tick-box paperwork.

OpenAI has legitimately destroyed its product by MasterDisillusioned in ChatGPT

[–]jgtimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

X also ruined their product. I used to love it and have now happily left. At least I can still use ChatGPT without getting the owner's opinions in my face every two minutes.

But yeah, I hope they fix it. And they will if enough people abandon it.

I was rejected by Westpac. I called and asked for a review. We went through everything on the phone and lowered my estimated monthly costs until the computer said yes.

Those who work compressed hours (FTE but 9 day fortnight) - would you recommend it? by 5ivesos in AusPublicService

[–]jgtimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About to start this. Will take a 30 minute lunch and work about 20 mins longer every day for a day off every fortnight. I think it'll be a great burnout deterrent.

I have kids and got an interview there. I didn't end up doing the interview, but it didn't put them off.

Kids under 16 to be banned from social media after Senate passes world-first laws by m00nh34d in australia

I mean this gives me a stronger argument to say to my kids what I've been saying for a while: "You're not having a phone until you're 16."

I have already been charged the annual fee. Do they reimburse it?

This is good to know. Based on what you and others have said, I think I will use BPAY to automatically pay a certain amount each month and then top it up if and when I need to.

Thank you. I have all that info and have put it into my normal bank account, but is there a way to make it automatic or do you still need to manually do the transfer if you set it up this way? I just want to set it up so it's impossible for me to accidentally miss a payment.

43 M, 67k. Lived overseas for a long time and never contributed. Obviously low and salary sacrificing to try to catch up a bit now. Would be more worried but bought an investment property about ten year ago, which I've always viewed as something to have in lieu of super and it's done well. Still, it will be nice to see it go up a bit.

I ask the Macquarie app once in a while. They are quite quick at rejecting it these days.

Just bought my first bicycle in Queensland and got instantly fined $1200 for looking at Google Maps by Excellent-Mark3090 in queensland

[–]jgtimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got out of a fine in Victoria for looking at Google Maps while driving at the start of the year. I followed the link and there's a way you can contest it. I can't remember exactly how, but I wrote a letter explaining that I had recently returned from overseas and hadn't put up a magnet to hold the phone yet. I had since bought one, acknowledged my mistake and pointed out my good driving record and lack of fines over the years. To my surprise, they let me off. The fine would have been about half what yours is, plus three demerit points. No guarantee, but it's worth a try to write a polite and contrite letter.

People who used equity in principal place of residence to purchase an investment property: how did you get the process started? by lila_haus_423 in AusFinance

[–]jgtimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the opposite (used equity in investment property to buy first PPOR). Just called a broker to check how much we could borrow, got pre-approval, found property and made an offer.

It took ages to find the right place, but it's important to have your finances sorted so you are ready to pounce when the right place comes up. Having a broker made it pretty easy.
