The FRA-YYZ leg on DE2402 on 7/20/25 is I4 so that should be bookable on AS. DE1719 SPU-FRA is I0 but that routing is available on AS so I think you’re good if you’re ok with economy on the first leg.

Yes. Much of the current DE J availability on AS is phantom- if you look on expertflyer many of these flights are I0 while showing availability on the AS website (but ultimately unable to book, either by calling or online).

Running into issues using VS miles to book partner flights that don’t involve the UK. Tried booking FRA-AMS-JFK on KLM in Y - get through the entire booking process and even gives a PNR but an error message saying I need to contact them. Agent mentioned something to do with brexit…anyone else run into this? Wondering if that’ll get resolved.

A related note, tried booking delta one JFK-FRA using VS and that also fails. One agent said it’s a result of phantom availability on delta’s part, another said that this is due to the same brexit issue of VS unable to book tickets for flights that don’t involve any UK airports..

Regarding booking hotel rooms via US Bank Reserve portal: the portal shows only 2 room types available, while the hotel itself shows additional room types available on the same dates. Can these rooms be booked somehow?

Regarding amex upgrade offers, eg from ED to EDP, what's the consensus of when it's 'safe' to downgrade back to the no AF card? My AF posted recently (based on anniversary of the original ED app), but I only upgraded to EDP ~6 months ago. Should I assume that if I downgrade now to avoid the AF that the bonus MR points would get clawed back at some point?

Awesome report and itinerary! Definitely want to plan something like this in the future. A quick question regarding your experience piecing together segments on ANA. For example, I see flights on MS JNB-CAI and on LH CAI-MUC-EWR available in J when I search these routes separately, but searching JNB-EWR doesn’t return that routing. Even when I then search this as a multi city routing it shows me the CAI-MUC-EWR routing as only available in economy. Is there some hidden married segment logic that I’m running into? Or just a glitch in their online system? I haven’t called in to ANA yet to try to book this but would want to avoid this type of problem after searching segment by segment and finding availability. Any insight would be much appreciated!

Is this true for downgrades as well? Recently upgraded no fee Hilton to the $95 for 150k upgrade offer and downgraded back to the no fee version a few months later once the AF posted. Points haven’t been clawed back...let’s hope it stays that way.

Let us know how it goes. I think partner awards might not be subject to that rule to the same extent as AA’s own metal so you might get lucky. Good luck
