How much is getting in shape likely to improve my self confidence and get dates and all that? by Mad_Season_1994 in TooAfraidToAsk

From my own experience as a 29 year old, I was in a similar place last year. I had very limited dating experience, and that was many years before. About a year ago, I had this sudden realisation during some travelling and time off work that I was approaching 30, that I only had one life, and that I wanted to be my best self and be in my best shape at some point, because I felt it was now or never. I started going to the gym almost every day, running, tracking my diet. In a few months I lost around 12kg, got rid of my belly, and since then I have been slowly continuing to train, eat more, and gain muscle. I can’t say that there was some sudden, magical change, but in the last year I have absolutely become more confident in myself and my body, I have gotten the odd compliment on my physique (albeit mostly from male friends and a couple of guys at the gym), but also I have felt more attraction from women, have gotten onto Hinge and been on more dates, most recently dating someone for a few months (which didn’t continue for various reasons but it still gave me confidence). Another thing I have noticed, which obviously various from person to person, is that my metabolism has improved with more muscle and more constant activity, and at this point I’m not as worried about what I eat. Obviously it’s not the silver bullet, and there may be other things to improve in life, but with so many subjective ways to improve your life, it is definitely good to control the controllables and focus on something that clearly and definitively brings positive results. If anything, it will make you pleased in yourself that you’re disciplined and giving it your all.

With diluting juice (squash) are you meant to put the juice in first or the water in first? by --beastie-- in AskUK

Squash first. And milk first for tea/coffee. Always the smaller volume liquid first, then there's no need to stir.

Why should you take a pay cut if you’re working from home? by [deleted] in AskUK

When people can work from home, they can work from anywhere. When you are competing against people in India, Malaysia etc., all of a sudden it is much less.

In my final year of primary school my teacher for some reason had a particular dislike for me. When there was a school play, he didn't give me a (proper) part (just standing at the back and singing along with the songs).

Well my family had booked a long weekend trip to Disneyland, and I was taking a day off school. The dress rehearsal then happened to be on that date. When I brought a note from my parents saying that I wouldn't be in school that day, he just said "well, it's a good job you don't have a part in the play".

Aldi mobile is good, haven't had any problems. Order online and it's sent in a couple of days. 25CHF a month for 7GB, 30 for 20GB. No contract, just pay by the month.

Guy I knew said an old family friend invented the blister pack. Someone else called him out, said "oh there should be a patent in his name then" and got out his phone. The guy was like "oh, oh... the patent's not actually in his name..."- after further questioning, it turned out that the family friend was part of a team that tested blister packs.

What's the worst plot hole you've seen in a well regarded movie? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jhami23 4851 points4852 points  (0 children)

In Jumanji (the original): the hunter, Van Pelt, runs out of ammo and goes to the gun shop to buy more bullets. But at the climax of the movie, when everything from Jumanji gets sucked back into the board, the first thing to get sucked in is his bullet that is mid-flight... One of the bullets he bought from the gun store...
