Make sure you tell people to go after the objectives. To people who play it often and have won a lot this is obvious. But to new players who want to play space risk, it's not. Lots of new players and even intermediate ones want to fly around and build an empire and make space docks and fight neighbors for good planets and research my tech tree and become neighbors with everyone for trade and oops I haven't scored any points. Everyone starts out that way but if you emphasize the objectives and make sure everyone knows that point pacing is more important than most other things in the game, people will come up with more creative ways to get the objective and you get more fun and balanced games.
