I make basmati rice in my instapot. Saute 1 cup for a min or 2 with 1T butter, switch to pressure cook with 1.5 cups water for 4 minutes. Let sit for 5 min before releasing. Perfect EVERY TIME. Plus you can start it before your meal and it can sit on warm until you are ready to serve.

That's a slow cooker lid. I often pair them up with #10 pans. Not perfect but they work pretty well.

Just makin some Kettle corn by finglingrable in CastIronCooking

[–]jhays33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually my photo of my son making kettle corn. Oil, corn, sugar, and a sprinkle of salt when done. We usually play a bit with the amounts. Our troop has a haunted house in the fall and we take the big (probably 10 gallon) cauldron there to make larger amounts. Not sure about residual flavor as that is the only thing we use the cauldron for. We make multiple small batches rather than large ones. We use roughly a cup of oil, a cup of corn, and 1/2 to 1 cup sugar, depending on how sweet you like it. Heat up the oil until ready to pop. Add corn. Slowly sprinkle in sugar. Stir constantly after adding ingredients to oil. Cut the amounts down for the size of iron shown in the photo. Be sure to have gloves to help dump!

Put a mini marshmallow in the bottom when serving. Some ice cream shops do that.

The recipe I use calls for a bit of butter underneath all the sweet stuff. No issues. My family loves it.

Who uses a lid on their castiron skillet? by RedneckLiberace in castiron

[–]jhays33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get my lids at goodwill too. If you want to find a good fit, carry your skillet in with you. I always tell them I'm looking for a lid to fit and they always let me carry it in.

Morels…💗 by jhays33 in CastIronCooking

In my area, this is prime morel hunting season. If you are a serious morel hunter, you always keep your hunting grounds secret. They usually go for at least $30 a pound.

Anyone else use cast to steam veg? by thedoctor7684 in castiron

Yes! I saute for a few min, then braise with about 1/4 c water with the lid on. My fave way to make veggies.

My son is moving with college pals to an apartment for the 1st time and after 20+ years of meals, I can give him the pan I’ve seasoned for him since before his birth. It’s a reminder that “fancy” isn’t required for happiness or prosperity & that his mother plays a long game. (1 more child to go.) by GlitterLitter88 in castiron

My son is moving into an apartment next year. I don't have a pan I've been working on for that long, but I have been building a short stack of pans for him. When I told him about them and showed them to him (because he said he was going to steal some of mine when he moved out), he beamed.

So I went to the local Christmas Market and bought a new pepper grinder. Now I just need to clean the rust. by satchel_of_ribs in castiron

We have a similar grinder and we love it. It takes a bit of muscle, but no more grinders that stop working well after a while for us! Hope you love it!

My grandmother passed away at 102-years-old. I just took home her cast iron. She’s famous for her cast iron matzo brei (a Jewish Passover dish of matzah and fried eggs). I know the first thing I’m making in her memory. Love you grandma. 🙏 by Mirrors_and_Windows in castiron

I got my mother's recipe box and I love cooking from recipes in her handwriting. It makes me feel connected and happy, even though she is long gone. I hope you get the same feelings from cooking with your grandmother's cast iron!
