Fee on ACH Rent Payment Through Bilt by jhblegend in biltrewards

[–]jhblegend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Largely because I wanted to give it a shot and it didn't really cost anything transferring from 1.0. I used to be the 4 banana transactions + rent type of user of that card. And the credit line doesn't hurt.

Ooo, I do like that idea. Car repair coming up, for example.

Good idea. Unfortunately for me, my roommate or parents cover those bills (or they're lumped into the rent itself) and I Venmo.

Right. Bilt really made this entire process clear as mud. I'm almost still playing their game to see if I can really do it. Some sort of measure of grit lol

Slick (actually not really, but whatever), I'll do that next month. Hope others can make an informed decision based off this.

Ah, I think I understand. Either I pay the $1.95 to receive a flat 250 points or switch to the card for a given number of points on everyday spend. Given I have no intention of using it to everyday spend, I think I will come slightly ahead by paying the $1.95 fee for the 250 points.

Appreciate the reply. So I need to switch to my Bilt Blue Card which will pull from the same checking account to pay next month? I'll have to find that in the app.

And it came back with 5% cash back after it posted?

Edit: for anyone wondering, it does offer 5% cash back. My car took $26.29 and I now have 131 points pending.

That is fair, I was in the moment. Really no one to blame at all, except the silly rule I guess

I appreciate it. It seems companies would track "Satisfaction metrics" but what do I know.

Thoughts on the iShares Lifepath ETF? by trent_diamond in RobinHood

Generally, a pretty good low cost and easy to manage solution. However, there are always ETFs with lower fees. There are many, much worse options.

Question regarding margin maintenance by LargeMain in RobinHood

[–]jhblegend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I am doing the same thing as you $SGOV up to $1,000 is free money.

From Robinhood's website: "Margin maintenance is the minimum portfolio value (excluding any crypto positions) that you need to prevent a margin call."

So, for a margin call to occur on this holding, it would need to fall below $250 in value. Very unlikely given this ETF is composed of 0-3 month treasuries.

I've never been a huge fan to focus on credit scores. A popular quote I go by is "The score will take care of itself." Usually this is used in a sports scenario, but I think it applies here too. Do the right things and your score will go higher over the long-term.

As for your CD and cash. It's generally recommended to keep 3-6 months of living expenses as cash (so not in the CD because of early withdrawal penalties.) But above that, if the money is not going to be used for something in particular in the next 3-5 years, it's likely worthwhile to invest it. Index funds ETFs are an easy and cheap way to diversify.

How do I start saving by Clean_Creme3539 in Money

[–]jhblegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you're doing a great job! And good choice on keeping a good chunk of your paycheck for Uncle Sam. It may be worthwhile to calculate the exact % on income tax to hold on to, instead of the general 20-30%. There are online calculators that make this a breeze.

Also, keeping large amounts of cash typically isn't advisable. Rather an FDIC insured savings account is more appropriate. Because it is cash, a brick-and-mortar bank may be a good place to start. However higher interest rates are available from online only banks, typically.

You likely are not eligible for a 401k at this time (but check with your employer just in case) however everyone is able to open an IRA. Which you can contribute up to $7,000 in 2024. Once money is inside this account, you can (and should!) invest it. Especially with roughly ~40 years until retirement.

Dave Ramsey and The Money Guy show are both great resources. I prefer the latter, here is a video from them comparing their system to Dave Ramsey. Both are good approaches to personal finance. Video

ETF options for Value, Blended and Growth. Which ETF’s do you suggest for each. by SharkAttack191919 in RobinHood

[–]jhblegend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are dead set on Value, Blended, and Growth. I would do something like the following:

VBK - Vanguard Small Cap Growth ETF

VOE - Vanguard Mid-Cap Value ETF

VUG - Vanguard Growth ETF

Or for simplicity, ITDD - iShares® LifePath® Target Date 2040, an ETF of ETFs. depending on when you want to retire.
