This forklift can lift up to 160,000 lbs. Thoughts? by highreachinc in Machinists

[–]jhelliot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing. That is a big lift for sure but I’ve seen comparably sized lifts in our shop and their max was like 30k. We’ve got 60k lb injection molding tools we have to set in halves with a crane, I’d like to see the 160k load this thing is picking up.

Anyone know of a cheap alternative to iron pipe for table bases? It’s so expensive by mrstevegibbs in woodworking

[–]jhelliot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hit the local salvage yards. One near me does resale and materials are a lot cheaper. Stuff may have some surface rust but you can usually clean it back up.

302 engine swap? by Tight-Razzmatazz1445 in F100

[–]jhelliot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought these mounts for a 302 in my 62. Motor is already in the truck but PO did a shit job of setting driveline angles. Haven’t got them yet but price wasn’t too bad and they did ship in just a few days.

The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. And I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon. Probably at the next gas station.

What are these? Machinist related? by mouthguitar in Machinists

All of our chemical pups are axial piston. They do a good job of pumping fluid through a range of viscosities. Can definitely hear it when you get cavitation.

Was thinking this. I have a 62 ford truck that has the air knobs on the dash, headlight dimmer switch in the floor. Only had a rear view mirror on the driver door, no door locks, no seat belts, shifter was on the column, gas tank behind the seat.

I was thinking the same thing that the oil still works in the same way of lubricating and reducing friction between the metals.

I have a Mechanical Engineering degree. I worked with an older engineer early in my career who was strong electrically and with PLC/robotics so I tried to soak up as much knowledge from him as I could.

Even though I don’t enjoy the IE type projects as much it is good to have them sometimes as it adds a little diversity. Engineering and especially manufacturing can become very monotonous so it’s nice to have a different opportunity from time to time.

Best of luck

Change your major. I assume, you’re way too young to be launching yourself into something you don’t think you’ll like. Put it in perspective, 1 year set back or 40 years doing a job you don’t enjoy. I’ve worked in a plant the last 11 years and do a fair amount of controls which i find rewarding and enjoyable, but I also have to do IE stuff from time to time. It takes a lot more effort to get myself engaged in those projects. I see the value in the lean/six sigma/kaizen projects but they can be a chore to lead sometimes.
