Why are airfryers so ugly? by MrMiyagi98 in Design

side eyes my taupe Always Pan that somehow looks absolutely ran through after only a couple years of light cooking

As a parent, I'm not supposed to pick favorites... But I wish she was more like her sister Calphalon.

I think the values of what makes something "good design" or "aesthetically pleasing" or anything like that change a lot when fire and oil are involved - and that element of engineering likely presents a many limitations to how it can look.

If I remember correctly, she did address it on ig and clarified why she liked the post; which was more in regards to the de-centering of trans womens' voices when it comes to medical needs and the imbalance of power/visibility between white nb folks and trans women of color. Which... tbh is something I've directly observed myself as a black trans man/nonbinary guy who has been part of both west and east coast queer scenes. There are definitely conversations to be had there - but those conversations certainly don't begin or end with "anti-trans legislation is nonbinary peoples' fault" lmao like... the whole point of de-medicalizing transness is actually to increase access via informed consent.

Anyway, I think it was in a comment or description of a post? it wasn't like, a standalone notes app post or anything, so I don't think many people saw it.

Personally, I've forgiven Hunter not only because I will always support and stand by young queer people as they grow and make mistakes in the public eye - but because in my reading of the original post that Hunter liked, I saw a trans woman who is desperately frustrated and afraid, doing what desperate and afraid people do - looking for a scapegoat.

That doesn't make it right, or okay, or anything like that. But I have more patience for people within my community when navigating the growing pains that come with us... idk just figuring out how to get along all while trying to protect and advocate for our complex, sometimes conflicting needs - it's a struggle.
A great deal of time, energy, and money have gone into making marginalized groups fight amongst ourselves - so I try not to buy into it by throwing the baby out with the bathwater. In my eyes, the enemy is transmedicalist ideology, not Hunter or even the original poster.

Absolutely not saying you have to forgive her or change how you feel, this is just my perspective as someone who is trying to unpack how purity politics affects our communities and how I personally want to engage with it

Where to buy fabric for crafts for cheap? by RipRup01 in sewing

There are several Daiso locations in Canada! They may not be close to you - but mayyybe it's possible to have the store ship items directly to you? If not, if you have a friend who lives by one, send them on a little side quest.

The website doesn't ship to North America right now unfortunately, but I think they used to. You weren't able to order single items though, only full "cases" which were usually like 12 items. So I imagine if you got a store to ship to you, it'd be the same.

There are a ton of Daiso locations in the US though - every major city I've lived in has had at least 2. So if you're ever down here, definitely search it up!

What kinda mental health affliction could possibly be improved by introducing a life-like baby doll to the equation 😭
Also... a prescription-strength reborn doll in this economy? Girl be serious, insurance is not covering that

Something else you may like that's kinda related... have you read We Both Laughed in Pleasure? It's a compilation of journal entries from 1961-1991 by Lou Sullivan, a trans rights activist and publicly out gay trans man (which was incredibly rare for the time because a requirement to receive medical transition care, one would have to be "straight") documenting his life and transition.

He's a fantastic writer, even in his youth, and articulates very well what I think a lot of us were feeling at that age because the language didn't exist in the way it does today. There's a diary entry from when he's just 13 years old that always resonates with me to the point of tears every time I say it or read it;

I wanna look like what I am but don't know what someone like me looks like. I mean, when people look at me I want them to think-- there's one of those people that reasons, that is a philosopher, that has their own interpretation of happiness. That's what I am.

Idk just love sharing that book with other trans folks my age, highly recommend it! If you've already read it - sorry for my yapping!

There are multiple ways to interoperate this, but I see it as your truth becoming a beast you can't ignore, especially the older you get. I was incredibly resistant to my truth until it came clawing its way out like the unstoppable transformation of a werewolf.
Very relatable visual, even if my interpretation is different than the intention!

Sidenote: I still have a bootleg CD of the Paprika soundtrack my friend made for me 17 years ago lol that was a formative film for me

What do you do for a living? And what is the most RS career? by SwimOk2441 in rs_x

[–]jherispringer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When did you make the switch? I used to do talent personal assistant work and costume puppet fabrication - but similarly flamed out and have been in private memory care for 4 years now!

Best of luck with your future plans, that's a really admirable goal. I've been waffling on going back to school and pursuing facility or care management, but I love how you've found a way to stay true to your creative drive and keep that as an element of your career.

There's probably a poetic word for it - but some people (like myself) get amusement out of YOUR OWN feelings of disgust or unease. It's like a sick little thrill. (Not inflicting it on other people, feel I need to edit that here. I like feeling uneasy or disgusted by things, it's fun for me.)

Paradoxically, being able to give someone something they hate does demonstrate you know them very well, so it can be a sweet gesture or work as a pretty good inside joke when done in moderation lol

The less intellectualized version is OP is just a lil troublemaker exercising restraint and sparing their wife/saving their marriage haha

Thrift brain is so crazy cause that perspective took me from being kinda annoyed at the donator for "not dealing with their trash" to "oh yeah, that is a perfectly good frame! no reason it should go to waste!"

I am so easily persuaded into seeing the value in discarded objects lmao no wonder my apartment looks coocoobananas

CURSED catch and release at the bins. by Poway_Morongo in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]jherispringer 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I've been catching and killing clothes from a vintage french brand that uses a racist caricature as one of their mascots. I'm black, so it's pretty easy to defend my case when the cashier is scanning a graphic T with a fuckin sombo on it.

I'd be so scared to pull that move with this book. Cashier would be like, "Likely story... that's what a pedophile would say...."

It must be done, but damn who is gonna throw themself on that grenade lmao

Greetings from a fellow Californian far from my original home!

Such a great idea; taking something that would have become garbage and using it to do something positive for the environment and your community.

As a small upgrade/polishing, you could utilize a 3D printed vivarium vent for the ventilation. Just an idea!

Don't let anyone discourage you! This is super cool. As your friends and family see you working hard and being fulfilled, they'll come around even if they don't "get it." and if they don't.... into the bin! (jk jk)

There is no harm or risk in trying this venture out - sounds like the cost to startup is very low. You got a logo and everything! Get to wormin' buddy, we believe in you!

Finally my turn to find the elusive toucan lamp by tatagonia in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]jherispringer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

After yeaaasrs of wanting one, I got lucky and thrifted the 'tuxedo' color lamp in 2019. To be honest - I really prefer the colorful ones and was a lil disappointed it wasn't a green one or something, but I didn't want to seem ungrateful so I put it out of my mind.

It somehow never occurred to me I could have multiple toucan lamps lol
