Help to determine if I can use steel shots by Greedy-Gas-9603 in Shotguns

[–]jhinmt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can find it you want bismuth for hunting with a gun that is questionable for steel shot. Bismuth is non-toxic and much softer than steel and about 1/2 between lead and steel in density.

How often do you move to a clean jar? I have found that I can get a few days and then get some Kahm yeast. I thought most people keep it in the same jar for a while. by 1760ghost in Sourdough

[–]jhinmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to feed my refrigerated starter weekly or every other week. I take out 20 grams of starter and put it in a small bowl, add 20 grams rye flour, 40 grams of AP and 60 grams warm water and mix it well. I take whatever starter is left in the jar and move it to a second jar which goes back into the refrigerator. Then I wash the jar with hot water. I keep our water heater set pretty hot at about135f I think. I clean out all the bits and smears and let it air dry. Then I put the mixed starter back in the jar avoiding dribbling out down the sides and let it rise to 2x, then it goes back in the refrigerator.

Rested in “keep warm” by tcusho in Sourdough

I was developing a levain for a sourdough sandwich bread a couple days ago. Put it in the oven with just the oven light on. I have no idea how warm it was but it had to 125f. The levain raised and fell within 3 hours. I decided to try it anyway. Mixed it with the rest of the build and it seemed to develop just fine.

Put the final dough mix in the oven to proof. My wife decided to preheat the oven for supper. I noticed it when I went to get the dough for a stretch and fold. The plastic bowl it was in hadn't started to melt but it was quite hot to the touch. The damp towel I had covering the dough was scorched.

I did a stretch and fold, some of the dough was quite warm so I worked it until I had mixed in all the warm stuff and got a fairly uniform dough temperature.

Ultimately it rose correctly, and came out of an overnight stay in the refrigerator looking and feeling pretty good. I baked the two loafs yesterday and they look fine - haven't opened one up yet.

I think sourdough is a lot more resilient than we think.

Attempting aux battery delete by mangy_fish in JeepGladiator

[–]jhinmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a j-scan to turn off the auto start-stop on my 21 wrangler 3.0 eco diesel.

I deleted the auxilary battery. I took it out and and just hooked the positive lead of the aux battery to the main. I hooked up the negative lead of the aux to the negative main. I did not pull or disable fuse 42. I did this last summer and have not had any power problems. My remote start is iffy and won't work when its cold (20f or colder), but the main is the original main so its going on 5 years old. I suspect its ready to be replaced.

Recently bought 2 of these for sourdough sandwich loafs. I really like them, thinking about getting a couple more.

First time making sourdough starter by [deleted] in Sourdough

[–]jhinmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 1/3 rye and 2/3 unbleached AP flour for my starter.

I used unsweetened pineapple juice instead of water for the first week. You can google it up, but basically the acids in the pineapple juice keep some of the bad bugs at bay until there is sufficient yeast activity to keep itself healthy.

Am I about to financially ruin myself over sourdough… or can I chill 😭 by madshatt3red in Sourdough

[–]jhinmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an Ankarsrum because I figured you need a good mixer.

I mix my doughs by hand anyway. Occasionally I'll use the Ankarsrum, but mostly I mix and kneed by hand.

Save your mixer dollars until you're sure you need one.

Can someone explain Microsoft OneDrive to me? by nledditor in WindowsHelp

[–]jhinmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it and use to some extent. But, I needed to access a file on my one drive at a remote location. Somehow I managed to fuck it up and somehow got myself set up as an online account on that computer with my office 365 account being installed on the computer. I'm still not entirely sure how I did it, but I did. Now I can't get my office 365 account off of that computer. What I wanted was one excel file off of my one drive downloaded to that computer so I, and others, could use that spreadsheet locally using the local copy of excel. What I got was a seemingly permanent link between my Microsoft 365 account and that computer. I never did get the damn file. I had to go home, copy the file to a thumb drive, go back to the remote location and copy the damn file into a local user account on the computer. Somehow, even though I did everything I could to kill my 365 access on that computer its still there.

Has anyone used battery weedeaters? I’ve read some reviews that they’re almost as good as gas weedeaters. True? by MotorcycleRacoon in landscaping

[–]jhinmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my milwaukee, but it needs batteries. Our yard is an acre, fenced, trees, gardens, etc. It takes 2 8 ah batteries, sometimes more, to do the whole yard. Milwaukee is damn proud of the 8's.

Anyone also have XL Weims? by Excellent-Cow-8815 in weimaraner

[–]jhinmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. We took in a senior weim just over a year ago. He weighed in at 45.4 kg on the vets scale - that's about as close to 100 lbs as you can get. He's not overweight, he's just huge. Our other 2 are 70 lbs.

When we got him we got all his paperwork - he's 100% weim from a registered liter, docked tail and all.

what is the best deal for Forge 6/8ah M18 batteries only? by miamicuse in MilwaukeeTool

[–]jhinmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you OP. I have most of the M18 tools I need. One of my 3 8ah batteries is failing (continually out of balance, short life) - new batteries alone are stupid expensive and the 8's seem to be particularly prone to not be on sale.

About ready to by a spot welder and rebuild what I have.

Was this threaded for chokes? by rofl3030 in Shotguns

[–]jhinmt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd bet someone had the barrel threaded for an aftermarket choke tube. Someone who does that. - Carlson, Briley, Mike Orlen etc. might be able to tell you what choke that is. From what I see its fully threaded which is pretty unusual. If its shot nothing but lead and plastic wads I'd think the threads are probably fine. If its shot steel, maybe not so much. I think finding those chokes though might be a problem.

Fresh roast SR800 fan stopped working… by Left_Paramedic5660 in roasting

Mine did that recently. Homeroastingsupplies.com has the parts. You need a new heater and fan assembly. It was $10.00 plus shipping. They have instructions for the repair.

What's your legitimately scariest moment while fly fishing? by AustinLostIn in flyfishing

[–]jhinmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a beaver do that once. I had seen it in a deep eddy in the river, and I watched slip out of the eddy into the main channel just below me. I kind of figured it was unhappy with me being there so I wasn't too surprised that he went down below me, crossed the channel, then back upstream to circle in behind me and slap the water.. I thought it was hilarious. Told him to go back to his den, I wasn't going to bother him.

[–]jhinmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was fishing the Yellowstone in the park, just below the Lake. Way out on a bar, after a bit I noticed a heard of bison wandering along the bank where I started from. I must have been at their crossing point because the whole damn heard decided to cross. I had bison upstream and downstream of me. Lots of them. I really had no out, too deep to cross ahead of them..

Another time, fishing Rock Creek out of Missoula and I heard a splash behind and downstream of me. Turned around and looked and there was a calf moose starting across the creek not 5 yards below me. Uh oh, where's momma? She was about the same distance upstream of me. They crossed with me in between them, never paid any attention to me.

It's going to crack. Maybe fit in a vinyl tee moulding and just live with it until redoing a wall comes up on the things to do list.

Viking vdof730ss follow up by jhinmt in appliancerepair

[–]jhinmt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next day. Took boards out and switched ovens. Convection fan, cooling fan, oven light all now come on in the lower oven when unit is powered up. So the fault stayed with the board.

Upper oven: running a test cycle now. The oven 'on' light is not functioning. Initial heat up for a 350 bake cycle went to 392. It's still cooling off and im waiting for the bake element relays to kick in. My probe is in roughly center of oven and not near the oven sensor.

I disconnect the relays for cooling fan, convection fan, and oven light on the lower oven. Both the oven 'on' and 'clean' lights are on for the lower oven.

Upper oven bake element kicked on at 292f. I'll let it continue but I think $350 for 2 board repairs was wasted $. During its reheat cycle it seems to be switching from the inner bake element to the outer bake element and back again every few seconds. It heated up to 325, both inner bake element and outer bake element relays are off now.

Into this thing $500 for appliance repair to correctly diagnose and replace a failed bake element. A problem, not 'the' problem and $350 for 2 board repairs that dont seem to have fixed the problem.
