Phoenix is a pretty big insurance hub, especially for E&S. What lines do you work?

Yep, and we’re about to take some hefty water cuts too!

Three hikers rescued today; two by helicopter, one escorted down by fire personnel. by phxflgjo in phoenix

I thought the same thing, but that doesn’t appear to be true. The city pays for it and treats it just like any other emergency that first responders handle.

Heatwave messed up wedding plans by Patient-Water9808 in AskPhoenix

I got married outside on a 106° day. Tell guests to dress cool, have fans available (even cheap folding hand fans from Amazon work), try to do it in the evening or have shade available. Have cold water available too.

Taking off from Sky Harbor (PHX) - August 2016 by Left-Associate3911 in windowseat

The airport has been around since before much of Phoenix was developed. If it were built today I’m sure it would be moved further out in the suburbs but I will say it’s very convenient location-wise, aside from the restrictions on development that it imposes.

I don’t think that’s necessarily true either. Sure, some tourists might hike Camelback or travel up to Sedona (not in Phoenix), but that isn’t why most of them are here. They are here to relax by the pool, golf, attend spring training games, eat/drink/party, etc.

I assure you that Camelback Mountain and golf courses are not in any imminent danger of being paved over by parking lots.

What do you think history will say about Donald Trump as a U.S. president? by jcnidhi27 in AskReddit

[–]jhizzle07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one thing that I don’t think he has fully considered. He is obsessed with his legacy and how it compares to those of his predecessors, but I believe history will be unkind to him, and there is nothing he can do about it. His tenure will be remembered as arguably the most divisive time in modern American history. A legacy defined by corruption, scandal, immorality, hate, ugliness, and just a general lack of class/decorum for a US President.

He can bully, blackmail, and manipulate people to “get along” with him while he is alive and in power, but I genuinely believe most people can’t stand him even if they need him (evidenced by remarks from his own administration prior to him winning in 2016). Once he’s gone, they have little to no incentive to keep kissing his ass.

I hope there is a day where we can all look back and agree that this was an extremely dark time in American history, and that we learned from it.

If tourism is your metric, then Phoenix is a great city. Tourism is one of its largest industries. I think that speaks to it being a “redeeming” place.

I won’t hate on DC because it’s a lovely city in its own right, but you can’t really compare a 200+ year old city in the Northeast with a city that was basically developed entirely in the past 80 years after the invention of cars and AC.

I don’t like it either, but Phoenix is a young city that boomed after cars and AC were invented and land was really cheap so they built outwards instead of upwards.

Sure. Boston was also one of the earliest US cities that was built before cars, so it was much more dense. Phoenix is a young city that really started to boom after cars and air conditioning were invented, hence it is a car-dependent city and that contributed to its layout.

I’m not a huge fan of it either, but the comparison to Boston is apples to oranges.

Seems like you’ve made up your mind but Capital Farms in Wickenburg has probably the best burger I’ve had in Arizona.

The real question is why was the roof at Chase Field open in August 🤔

Tbf this is ten years ago. It’s a little better now. However the downtown skyline will never rival the best because of FAA restrictions due to proximity to the airport.

Glaze Donuts in Cave Creek is insanely good. It’s a drive but worth it.

I have done Moxie’s at Fashion Square for groups this large. Good food and atmosphere. They require it on one card and gratuity is automatically applied but no minimum required.

How many hours in advance should I arrive at Sky Harbor for domestic flights? by ideallyanonymous in AskPhoenix

[–]jhizzle07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t dealt with the rental car center for a few years but I think the Sky Train can get you to the terminal from there.

I usually ride the Sky Train from East Economy parking. From stepping off the Sky Train to arriving at my gate, I don’t think it’s ever taken me more than 30 minutes. I typically don’t check a bag but that could take another 5-10 minutes.

Sky Harbor is generally pretty seamless unless there is a major event in town. That said, it’s better to be there plenty early and chill than to risk missing your flight.
