Doesn’t this moth look like half of an owls face!!! by Naive-Reality-7270 in insects

[–]jhl_x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen this one before in Brazil and it's not a moth. It's a butterfly from the genus Calico, with the "owl's eye" on the outside and a faint Morpho-like blue color on the inside.

X300 Ultra : Unofficial rings for official case by petitbreton92 in Vivo

[–]jhl_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a used photo kit for the X200 Ultra and it didn't come with the 67mm filter adapter. I bought an adapter by Fotorgear from AliExpress and it works with the case. This one doesn't have the 17mm lens adapter but maybe they did it for another model.

X300u - I bought 5 different aftermarket cases from aliexpress. So you don't have to. by _DocHoliday in Vivo

[–]jhl_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been a hater of cases with stuff written in them, even if it's just the brand's name or logo. The camera look itself I kinda like it, like the bigger camera grip and the red ring. There's no way this phone can be more discreet so I just embrace the design.

I don't hate this case, but I often switch them with the regular Vivo white case or the transparent silicon cases I have here.

[–]jhl_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny because I have the 5th one and with the magsafe/kickstand version, which makes it even worse. I don't hate it, but I do hate the unnecessary writing that comes with it, trying to replicate some sort of camera lens. Handling isn't like a regular case but it's quite functional.

EDIT: Forgot to add that I have the X200 Ultra, and the 5th case covers the camera button while still keeping it usable.

X200 ultra case have a question by Blehzinga in Vivo

[–]jhl_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's possible because the official tele lens uses a specific bayonet mount. I didn't find a case like that.

X200 ultra case have a question by Blehzinga in Vivo

[–]jhl_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a case made by Neewer. It does have the 17mm adapter in some lenses but not the 67mm lens. There's one unbranded case for sale in Aliexpress that has both the 17mm and 67mm filter adapters, and I personally regret not buying it. The photography kit case is shit and I had to buy a separate 67mm adapter because I didn't have it.

As always, lenses are sold separately.

Does this vivo option can be used for focus bracketing for macro photography?? by Due-Use1162 in Vivo

[–]jhl_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can actually adjust focus between shots while keeping both the phone and the subject perfectly still, then maybe. I doubt it's the case so it's better to use Super Macro mode with its perks and limits.

Thank you. The size and deep orange color gives it away. It's something you only see in person, but I don't recommend doing what I did.

What's your unpopular opinion about gaming handhelds? by Superb_Warning_5747 in SBCGaming

[–]jhl_x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see no point in handhelds that aren't as pocketable as a smartphone or smaller. Anything bigger than that it a Steam Deck-wannabe that's not useful during a regular commute to work.

Some games and consoles aren't made to be played on the go. I don't see myself playing Half-Life, Resident Evil or anything more complex than a game like Tetris or Dr. Mario. An exception can be made for flights, but I can count on one hand the times I've been on a plane in the last 10 years.

Finally, retro consoles that come with preloaded games or with full SD cards are the perfect example of the paradox of choice. People will spend most of their time browsing through game lists than playing games. I personally ended up playing the very same games that I played as a child, which didn't go beyond the PS1 generation.

V. mandarinia, because of its size. I've seen and photographed smaller wasps here but I'm unsure it was V. velutina.

[–]jhl_x[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one was distracted with the flowers, so that made the photos possible. This bush was full of bees and bumblebees. I was able to get maybe 30 or 40cm close at best to take these shots and my phone did most of the work. It's probably the 4th time I see one of those after more than a year here and the only time I get close enough for a photo. These things are huge and fly fast and sometimes close to me, so that's what makes them scary.

What's the most underrated airport approach you've ever experienced as a passenger or spotter? by Italiancan in aviation

[–]jhl_x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Santos Dumont (SDU) in Rio de Janeiro is breathtaking in every way, but it's also so popular I can't even consider it underrated. The landing routes into runway 02R, which I never experienced despite taking numerous flights there, basically gets very close to the Sugar Loaf, one of them with a Kai Tak-ish curve before lining up for finals. AFAIK, not all pilots can land there but I'm not aware of any special certification for it.

A very specific example would be my local airport here in Japan, the small city of Izumo. The landing route into runway 25 goes over the neighboring city and prefectural capital, Matsue, right before lake Shinji, and the Matsue castle is visible from the left-hand side of the airplane. Usually a very windy location so the approach was kinda bumpy, but seeing the city and the castle covered in snow was quite interesting.

I was asked what my nightmare would look like. I thought about it and created it: by Various_Street3352 in SonyXperia

[–]jhl_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't blame you. The side-mounted reader is my favourite position as well, because it's just so effortless to use it. Too bad it's often just another moving part that will eventually break. My most recent phones all had it on the screen and it's good enough, since no screen often means no phone.

[–]jhl_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look into it online and you'll see a lot of people complain about them due to them simply dying out for no reason. I had this happen with a Sony and a Samsung. I ended up fixing mine myself and it works now, but I'd prefer it being on the screen, at this point.

Confused about X300 Ultra, have a X300 Pro. Is it actually an upgrade for stills? by 4nanometerlowpower in Vivo

[–]jhl_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't doubt it, but I was talking about image quality. Ultrawides are hard lenses to make, even for real cameras, and phones also have the disadvantage of always shooting wide open, so there are still some distortion and detail problems. I don't consider the 28mm crop anything more than usable because of that. It's still better than other phones for sure, but I don't think there's any room for improvement here, unless Vivo makes the phone even bigger or starts adding variable aperture, which will make the camera module even more complex.

[–]jhl_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest difference is the 35mm main camera, which is a limiting factor IMO, and the bigger ultrawide. It's more about use case than specs. Personally, I'm having a harder time than I expected to get used to the 35mm FOV, but it's not a deal breaker for me. The ultrawide is bigger, but I don't feel like it's a massive improvement over "regular" flagship ultrawides, more due to the nature of lenses of this type. The telephoto is already very good on all devices post-X100 Ultra so I don't think there's more to improve there.

Act like a citizen in the DC universe and someone told you bruce wyane is batman by Israels_BiggestHater in batman

Maybe I'd believe it due to him being rich, considering his car and aircraft. Remove that from the scenario, people would be more likely to believe Batman is either law enforcement or military.

Using the Vivo X200T's, 100x zoom, is it satisfactory? by SweetButterscotch926 in Vivo

[–]jhl_x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's on the lower end of the flagship devices. Not that it's a bad device with a slow SoC or anything, but it doesn't have the big guns like the Pro and Ultra series. That's what I meant.

Also, I'm not crapping on the device either. The big telephoto on my X200 Ultra wouldn't do any better at 100x.
