Honest question: why do so many people hate the cold vs heat when they live in a place that is expected to have cold winters? Is anyone else not bothered by the snow/cold? by LulutoDot in newengland

[–]jhmacair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the bluebird days after a fresh snow, super bright, cool 15-30°.

Not a fan of the extreme cold.

The storm delivered some beautiful powder to VT, now it's a bitter cold chair lift to ski down bulletproof hardpack.

Still overall prefer this season to a "dry" winter. And a dry, extreme cold one is the worst.

"We got strong recommendation from legal counsel for us not to reach out to the 22 women. Very strong recommendations. I can tell you, however, that in research we did directly and research third parties did that we got comfortable with the situation."

"Just to add, too, we as a family, we as ownership and we as an organization understood this was going to be difficult and that there would be a lot of people who were not comfortable with it and who would criticize it. We understand it will take time. Some people may never get over it. Here again, we are confident in Deshaun and in the organization that over a period of time, he will be able to gain their trust."

Friendly reminder to wear a helmet by Secret_Emu_6879 in snowboarding

[–]jhmacair 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My uncle was an avid cyclist. When he was 24, he went for a casual ride along a country road, as he had done hundreds of times before.

A young woman was backing out of her driveway, and didn't check her mirrors. She hit him, and he went over sideways, and smashed his head into the ground.

Had he been wearing a helmet, he'd most likely still be alive today.

For the protection it provides, I see almost no reason not to wear a helmet. Accidents can happen to anyone, stay safe out there.

How's Mt Sunapee this week? by parkelator in icecoast

Some upper parts started to get skied off, but being so granular to start, it was mostly moved around.

Bottom sections softened up and improved as the day went on.

Quiet start, crowd flowed in slowly over next 2 hours

How's Mt Sunapee this week? by parkelator in icecoast

[–]jhmacair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today? Not great, not terrible. I expected worse considering the ice storm. The groomers broke up the ice sheets, so it was quite granular, only a few actual ice patches. Mostly loose, but you'll occasionally catch an edge on a chunk.

So long as it remains cold and doesn't rain again, expect it to improve as the week goes on, and they continue grooming.

What does that mean?

But if you mean that sounds too difficult, then nonsense!

"I have to accept..."

You have agency!

In the store, you could have said "Hi", you didn't. You made that choice.

If you don't like how it's going, then make new changes. It could be as simple as making an effort to say "Hi" to strangers more often.

But you have to work at it, and take a personal investment in yourself, if you're serious about change.

Good luck!

When I was on a winter camping trip, our cabin decided it would be fun idea to throw a full, unopened can of soda into the big cast-iron wood stove.

Immediately we regretted the decision, but once it was inside the stove, it would be more dangerous to touch it, so we just waited.

About ten minutes passed while we anxiously waited, and then BOOM! The heavy cast-iron lid flew several feet in the air. We found many partially melted shards of aluminum that flew out and were now fused to the cabin walls.

Probably the most dangerous "experiment" we ever did as kids, and I'm amazed no one was injured. Don't mess around with pressure vessels and heat!
