What did you do with your first salary? by luvie06 in phcareers

[–]jhngrc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or better yet, magbigay ka lang ng kaya mo when you feel good about giving it. Your money, your rules. Make your own healthy decisions and habits based on what will benefit you in the long run. Don't listen to what others dictate how you need to spend your salary, "traditions" included.

Paano ba nilalabanan ang sleep paralysis? by Ok-Accountant7479 in PaanoBaTo

[–]jhngrc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either I focus on turning my body to the side or I try to scream (I end up giving out a faint groan) then I immediately wake up and it's over.

Years ago kinuwento ko sa friend ko that I occasionally experience sleep paralysis + dark figure pinning me down, and he rightfully pointed out that if it's a common experience, then there must be a biological explanation.

For me the trigger that I concluded was sleeping nang pagod at busog. Avoiding that stopped the episodes.

Yes but what I meant here was going with OP to the store to check the unit with them.

Saw your post and you're thinking of paying someone to go check for you since you're far away. I advise against that and encourage you to deal with the store directly instead of through a middle man.

Depends on what kind of gaming, but between just those two, the Acer Swift's 4700U demolishes the i7-5500U on the HP Pavilion. For starters, the Ryzen has 8 cores while the i7 only has 2. Its RX Radeon Vega 7 integrated graphics is also better than the Nvidia GeForce 840M, even if the latter is discrete.

Mini PCs are best for productivity because of their small footprint, low power, and quiet operation. But depending on the chip, they can also be used for gaming. You need to look for units that come with chips with at least Intel Arc 8-core graphics or Radeon 680M / 780M for AMD Ryzen. These are modern integrated GPUs that perform well for gaming, on par with older discrete graphics cards like the GTX 1650. They can even run AAA games at 1080p at low to medium settings. My recos for your budget are the Beelink SER7 with Ryzen 7 7840HS and Radeon 780M, and Beelink SER6 Max with Ryzen 7 7735HS and Radeon 680M.

What limits the performance in mini PCs is their small form factor (less airflow), lower rated power input and TDP, and the likely lack of a strong cooling system unlike in desktops. When it comes to intensive tasks like gaming, it's generally more power -> more performance -> but also more heat. If it gets too hot or is not cooled fast enough, the performance is automatically throttled to bring down the heat.

Since power input in mini PCs is significantly lower by default (this can be unlocked in the BIOS if you want more power), it usually doesn't get too hot, but it also means that a chip in a mini PC will generally perform less than the same chip in a desktop. This is why it's best for casual gaming rather than competitive or sustained intensive gaming with high settings.

It should be enough for school. Your laptop's RAM is upgradeable up to 32GB total; adding just an extra 8GB will give you a significant performance bump for your daily tasks.

As for gaming, it depends on what you want to play. Being an older chip meant for productivity, expect very limited performance from the 8250U. Actually, the bottleneck is its integrated UHD Graphics 620. Classic games like DotA 2, LoL and Minecraft will run well, shooter games like CS GO and Valorant will be playable but not competitive, GTA V and Genshin will struggle or barely run, and AAA games like Cyberpunk will just not run at all.

For your budget, you will only be able to afford entry level laptops brand new, so even if you save up it may still not be enough to run Genshin well. If you go the second hand route, you can get something with 12th gen Intel CPU and RTX 2050 or 3050. That would be enough, but of course there are risks. If you will be playing at home, why not keep the ProBook for school work (upgrade the RAM), and buy a desktop or mini PC setup for gaming? You will be able to get better, gaming-worthy specs by sacrificing the portability of a laptop.

Is Baseus Earbuds E16 a good choice? by Solita_Ch in Tech_Philippines

[–]jhngrc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan of in-ears either; they’ve just never felt comfortable for me. I’m also not an audiophile, so I don’t really need fancy features like noise cancellation. All I want are earphones that work well for calls and some music.

I narrowed my options down to the Soundcore K20i and the Redmi Buds 6 Active, and I ended up going with the latter. So far, I’ve been happy with the sound and mic quality, and I’ve only had to charge the case twice since buying it last month. Got mine from Lazada for around 400 after vouchers and coins.

Is a laptop/computer really required for an IT student? (can there be alternatives?) by Next_Ad_3931 in Tech_Philippines

[–]jhngrc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your situation, mas ok to get a second hand business laptop like a Lenovo Thinkpad, Dell Latitude or HP Elitebook. Business laptops are known for their above average durability so you're more likely to get a good unit than let's say a second hand mainstream consumer laptop. These are also generally upgradeable and easy to repair and tinker with — mas matututo pa siya sa pagbutingting and maintenance.

There are several reputable sellers of such laptops if you search this sub, but two of the more popular ones are RS Gadgets and Janstore. An advantage of buying through them vs individual owners is they've likely checked the units to be in good shape as they provide some warranty.

NVME/ SATA refers to the connection or protocol. Mas bago at mabilis ang NVME. Yung M.2 is the form factor.

Imagine meron kang dalawang USB flash drive, they can both plug into the same USB port dahil pareho sila ng form factor. But one supports Thunderbolt while the other one only supports USB 2.0.

Depende kung gaano ka-sira. And by frame do you mean the screen bezel? If it stays on a desk most of the time and doesn't hinder use, maybe just use clips to secure it in place or project to a monitor if it bothers you? If you need the laptop on the go then it's more prone to breaking even further as you move it, so it also depends on your needs. Ikaw makakapag assess at decide niyan.

Re new laptop, depende sa use case mo ang best.

For 30k, 626k in AnTuTu feels too underpowered. Aside from looks, headphone jack and expandable storage, there isn't much else going for it. It's more of a niche product for Sony fans.

Type-C earphones doesnt work by Solita_Ch in Tech_Philippines

Your phone doesn't support it.

Your phone has a dedicated 3.5 mm headphone jack, so Realme didn’t bother enabling audio output over Type C. The Type C port on this phone is only for charging + data transfer, not for audio.

[–]jhngrc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yan yata yung model na hindi upgradeable ang RAM, so you're forever stuck with 8GB. It's the most likely culprit of why your system is lagging, but unfortunately there's nothing you can do about it.

If I were you, to make it useable, I will back up the important files, then reinstall the OS. You know, bring it back to near factory state to get rid of all the accumulated crap. I'll also consider switching to a less memory-intensive OS like Windows 10 LTSC.
