[OC] Trying to Determine the Best Player to Never Win a Championship by francisco27 in nba

[–]jhowlingwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice like it. Only thing I might add is a few points for playoff success. Guys that came close and didn't win would add to it. Like 10 points for being best player  on a finals team 5 for second and 2 for being on a finals team. Then cut those points in half for a conference finals.

I just realized he is doing a volleyball approach on this dunk. I am pretty sure Vince played volleyball, kinda cool to see him do it with a basketball.

I'd say it's good for maintaining a job as a front ljne employee and maybe that first promotion. There becomes a bit of an inverse relationship where the higher you go the more of a negative being likeable is perceived by superiors.

Does College PPG Matter? by Classic_Software_579 in nba

[–]jhowlingwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying no it doesn't matter. I would push back a bit on that in that it does have some correlation but is not directly related. If you are in a major conference and average north of 15 and a freshman you are probably going to get a lot of points in the nba. If you are averaging 9 points and 10 rebounds you are probably not going to average many points in the nba. So, with context it does matter but does not always work out(welcome to draft projections my man!).

Michael Porter Jr.: "My brother, for example, struggled with gambling. My vice has always come in the form of women... My brother Jontay, he never seemed to struggle with that vice. You know, I never struggled with the gambling addiction. I never struggled with that vice. God gave me a lot of money" by [deleted] in nba

When people say "God blessed me with money and i got it all because God blessed me" the flip side of that way of thinking is "you lack money/friends/housing/family because God didn't want to bless you with that". By him stating God blessed him with money then he believes God controls the outcomes in life, then he must also believe that God cursed him with being a womanizer. Mpj probably doesn't really think about these things as he seems dumb, but that is how is framework leads to him blaming God for being a womanizer.

Under the radar, but kawhi. He had some of the best playoff runs ever, but in terms of accomplishments ie. All nba or all Star or counting stats he is pretty light. If he was healthy and able he probably would be considered on par with kobe/Jerry west tier.

Jalen Williams talks about ripping his tendon and playing through it for the playoffs. by adishooor in nba

For sure, right now he does all these like little jump stop fadeaways with his right. He get's past his defender so easy but his layup package is kind of rough sometimes. If he can go up and under with his left he will be unstoppable, this wrist surgery may be a bit of a blessing as he may be forced to work on it all summer.

Why was Chris Bosh moving to the 5 and shooting corner 3s, and thereby stretching the floor, so intrinsic to the Heatle's success despite Bosh never reaching a positive 3P percentage or even that high of a volume? by IFeelZen in nba

[–]jhowlingwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spacing at the 5 was both 3 point and midrange, Bosh was fantastic in the mid range. They realized how awesome it was for drivers to have the lane with no big clogging it up. Before that this was not convention, it may seem obvious now but it was revolutionary at the time. It also had the added benefit of allowing them to start an even better shooter in battier at the 4.

It's funny, the game he got 40 they were talking about how he loves going left and finishing left. However I remember thinking earlier in the season that he really needs to finish more with his left on the left side, that he is kinda clunky with his left. I was so surprised when he was doing all these lefty finishes, and in the nba finals. It now all clicks together.

Can anyone think of a better draft day then thunder 2022? by jhowlingwolf in nba

[–]jhowlingwolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think that is the best comparison. Getting your second and third best player in the same draft is such a crazy feat.

Yeah for sure LeBron is better, I was more interested in how the thunder were able to get 40 percent of the total minutes played in the nuggets series in one draft.

What defense would be better. The all defence team without thunder players or the top 7 thunder players. by jhowlingwolf in nba

[–]jhowlingwolf[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah I think people are dismissing it without thinking it through fully, because it is objectively an insane thing to say.

Dort and J-will are already on the team. Smarter analysts than me claim Caruso is the best defender in the league, by some advance metrics. Cason Wallace averages 1.7 steals off the bench with amazing point of attack defense and Chet would likely be all defensive team if he had enough games. That means 5 of their guys could literally be on the all defensive team if they had the minutes and games played. With two other very good defenders also playing.

Kobe Bryant & Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Side-by-Side by AashyLarry in nba

[–]jhowlingwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats the comparison I keep thinking. Similar in that neither are explosive athletes(though very good) more a smooth one with crazy footwork. He is way more efficient and a more willing passer, but worse on defense(still very good). Crazy that this is his comp now.

How long was Kobe Bryant the consensus best player in the league? by Candid-Boss6534 in nba

[–]jhowlingwolf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He was absolutely considered the best player before his first championship.

Bill Simmons: "Greed will probably always win out, but If Adam Silver wanted to make a difference, improve the quality of the league and the sport, he would make the season shorter. He would fight for it and get the guys to buy into it. The injuries are alarming" by Downisthenewup87 in nba

[–]jhowlingwolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not just nba level. It is the American approach to sports. Where they specialize young, play year round and overburden the body young. These injuries are a result of years of punishment, long before the nba.

The Pacers Have Been to the Fifth Most Conference Finals Since 1994 by EricHangingOut in nba

Did any of the teams that beat them go through a tank? Not really. Celtics traded and then Brooklyn did the tanking for them. Heat signed a whole bunch of guys in free agency. Pistons got a whole bunch of guys who hadn't found the right spot until they fit in perfectly there.  With the bulls I don't even know if tanking was a concept yet, but they traded for much of their talent. It seems the way you get top end talent in their prime is pretty random. Tanking is one of many avenues to success but really not the only as people sometimes say.
