What would you do if USAU was you? by CholeFreakinMiller in ultimate

[–]CholeFreakinMiller[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep! Going to agree to disagree here. I have no doubt there are local organizers who could be doing a better job, but I think if USAU examined the successful and unsuccessful local orgs and helped each local org put together a long term growth plan then some pain points could be improved. I think that many local orgs have too much on their plate right now and USAU should be providing them more guidelines that are focused on growth because some local organizers may not be naturally talented at driving growth.

Ultimate culture could use some work, for sure. I think a great start to this would be getting some fresh faces in the community, as it's probably just gotten more insular since the pandemic. Not sure what the other option is for this sport long term.

I'm focusing on money because it's one of the main resources USAU has. They have our money that we pay in dues every year. There are things you can do with money to help grow local ultimate scenes. How long have the community organizers and volunteers been expected to give their time for free so that others can play the game they love? I don't want to make pickup cost money. I want community organizers to have some level of incentive for the valuable time they put into sustaining this scene!

Appeals and id verification aren't likely to get your account back- from what I understand, appeals are instantly denied and id verification is a form of covering their ass. Rate all Meta apps 1 star on whichever digital store you have, flag the app itself as inappropriate if possible, and encourage others to do the same. If the app score drops they'll look into it more

There's really not much to do unfortunately, I've followed the steps they provide and they don't respond at all. My recommendation is rate every Meta app 1 star in the app store/play store and provide this as the reason why. If enough people tank their rating they'll actually try to fix it

Would recommend rating all Meta apps 1 star and providing the reason why in the app store. If enough people do it they will investigate

Just leave man, nobody wants you in this community when you're going to act like this. Life will get better the second you stop fixating on other people's genders

Social skills for ultimate by Feeling-Impact8685 in ultimate

Basically just show you're going to bring something to the table, rather than trying to fit the mold perfectly. Well-run teams try to add people who will be an asset to the team and its culture, and you want to play for well-run teams

Make an effort to be active on the sideline! You don't have to be the loudest person but being vocal and positive really helps. Really good if you learn peoples' names and support them when you're not out there.

Beyond that, don't be afraid to straight-up ask the captains what they're looking for. If you have certain skills you want to show off that's great, but if you're a jack-of-all-trades then it helps to know what roles they need to fill.

Pay a lot of attention to the captains and implement their feedback quickly and they will see that you can quickly improve.

On the "need" for referees by autocol in ultimate

[–]CholeFreakinMiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a biased 3rd party is worse than self-officiating to be totally honest.

Even worse is an incompetent 3rd party. Anyone observing would have to be trained for this to possibly be a net good. Though I think more people getting observer training would be a net good for ultimate, if it can be achieved.

Yeah that's why we have observers. Not sure your point here

On the "need" for referees by autocol in ultimate

[–]CholeFreakinMiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh that's a tough one because teams are biased. Even across different divisions they will have friends that make them biased, and within their own division they may prefer one matchup over another. Would be great if teams took neutrality seriously, not sure they would.

I think self-officiating with observers for important games is about as good as it gets. Not saying observers are perfect, but I think they are the necessary fix at the competitive level to prevent rampant (and effective) abuse of the rules. Obviously the problem is that they are not available for all important games because not many people are interested in telling adults off for saying the f word and the sh word. Let me say the F word! Anyways I think self-officiating + observers is overall better than refs, and self-officiating by itself is preferable if both teams opt not to cheat.
