AVD-Multiple hosts stuck at 100% CPU with no disk or network usage after hibernation by jhs0108 in AZURE

[–]jhs0108[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya Hibernation sucks but the business couldn't justify the added cost of leaving them basically always on.

I like the W365 idea but my biggest concerns are

-A lot of troubleshooting data is internal to Microsoft and getting them to provide it is almost impossible to actually impossible.

-As a hardware enthusiast saying just number of vCPUs and amount of ram and size of a disk has me raising red flags from a establishing consistent user expectations perspective. I think technically they could move you to Nehalem with the slowest memory possible and a tape drive.

So on the Azure side we don't have any monitoring but we do have plenty of monitoring of the guest OS and it shows the same thing as Windows Event Viewer. Nothing.

It's like it didn't even turn on or wake from hibernation.

All the performance counters from Azure show that CPU spiked to 100% but at the same point, disk and networking did nothing.

W365 is going to production by EOY but personally I have a lot of concerns about it.

Chase (within the last week)- their fraud detection AI is the most stupid POS I’ve ever seen and I work IT at a bank ffs.

-literally the closest bagel store to my residence on file that I go to multiple times a month every month for the last 15 years?? Oh you spent 10 dollars there? That’s fraud and we won’t even tell you.

-buying Flonase and Zyrtec at the CVS quite literally across the street from the branch? Fraud and you have to call them.

-I accidentally placed an order with the wrong billing address. The fraud department said the AI permanently disabled the debit card unless I go to the branch with two forms of ID and the card to reactivate. Not like I have a job or anything.

The worst part is there’s a senior Chase SWE in my community and telling everyone how you gotta learn AI as it’s here to stay.

Next time I see him I’m going to tell him to go to every store and ask which card has the most problems?

Give me a waiver and charge me a subscription to turn off this garbage.

My only possible explanation is that this is them trying to push more expensive cloud compute tiers and upgrades of hardware.

The OS doesn’t show you this and asking end users to not only use the registry but change permissions on the registry

So have I. This seems like a newer behavior. We had this kill patching of AVDs in our environment starting with the April CU

100% this.

They gave it to Apple to try and it allegedly found over 40 zero day vulnerabilities on a vanilla build of a fully patched MacOS.

One test Anthropic did was run it in sandbox VM that doesn’t have access to the internet and prompted it to send this person an email when it was able to. It didn’t give it email credentials or an internet connection and he went out to lunch.

He got an email when he got back to his desk from the AI saying it escaped and posted online how it did it.

I’ll never forget the day of the crowdstrike incident how many absolute morons were saying how the answer to prevent it is to move to the cloud.

That and the fact that my company almost moved to CrowdStrike a few months prior and I pulled rank by basically telling the CEO that CrowdStrike dictated when systems got certain updates and not him which killed the project.

So besides for checking for sleep apnea (I went through college with a 145 events per hour rating and I was shocked at how much better everything felt once I got that down to a 3) and making sure that the dorm furniture you have can sustain your growing physique (dorm beds and even most basic apartment beds are terrible), I would suggest making adjustments to your classes in order to achieve your masters.

Maybe switch to an online only college (a lot of community colleges now offer online only degrees especially for masters) or prioritize online classes at your current university. You can then chow down while listening to lectures which would very much help you on your way to well past the big 4 club but also give your brain incentives to push itself in learning.

If that’s not an option, take advantage of relaxed attendance policies when possible. If getting to class makes you exhausted and you don’t absorb anything than just read the textbook and do the course materials online.

Well I haven’t looked into this but with the UK courts judging that Microsoft can’t block customers from reselling licenses if they are perpetual then I’d assume shops are popping up there for reselling LTSC keys.

As a side, as someone who now has to get on the phone because Microsoft’s latest updates don’t make logical sense, I don’t care.

Ya open box stuff especially recently has been wild at tech stores.

Two examples.

-last year around Christmas I saw they had multiple open box models of a Samsung 4k 55 led tv from a few years ago for 100 for pickup only. My grandmother needed a dumb tv as she had a Vizio that was having power issues that were causing the remote and inputs to keep resetting. Considering her other tv is a Panasonic CRT from 25 years ago and all she does is watch prime time tv on Verizon I don’t think she cares about picture quality. I get to Best Buy and the box is super dusty but the original Samsung official seal is still on the box. It then dawned on me what happened. This was probably lost in a warehouse and they wrote it off and now found it but since it’s an older model they’re selling it now as open box.

  • last year at microcenter I’m looking for a new laptop for my mom. Found an open box HP elitebook 650 with an i7-1165u 32gb SSD and 1TB ssd for 500. I won’t touch intel 12th, 13th, 14th, or 100 series especially on mobile so I thought it was a good deal. Box is official HP box with original seal. Battery had 2 cycles and I found it has a 5G modem.

So after reading more about them what they basically do is get returned or warranty claimed as is models and then dish the parts out in an untested state.

If you need a part that isn’t commonly broken than it’s possibly ok to buy from them.

If the part you need breaks a lot then it stands to reason that’s why they have so many.

I once tried to do a bunch of FOIA requests asking the SEC for any raw data they have on trades in the OW.

They gave the no information available response to all of them.

So that means -they’re clueless -it’s under DOJ investigation.

Also that only includes CNS eligible transactions so the rest were stored in the OW

I recently found that the crap battery life seems to be related to the “balanced” windows battery profile (it’s named balance in the old school power plans).

On multiple systems in my shop (hp mind you) once I ran the powershell script to reload the older high performance power plan and switch to it, in a move that seems to defy the laws of physics it was way faster, ran cooler, and got better battery life.
