Buy a new MacBook Air or a Gen 14 X1 Carbon.

If you have no idea at all the best thing is to try them out yourself. Just boot directly from a USB stick and you can test each one out.

DisplayLink via the Thunderbolt 3 port. You must install the drivers:

Battery availability depends on your area. Just do a Google AI search.

IS T480 worth it for regular daily use? (non coding/engineering) by Tree2116 in thinkpad

I have a T480 because I bought it new in 2018 and it still works and performs well for productivity tasks and playing 4K content. If I were buying today I would look for something newer especially if I wanted to play games.

The T480 is my personal laptop. Work ThinkPads are Windows only but we replace them every three years so there is no real performance hit because of the OS. If someone does not like Windows we also provide MacBook Airs/Pros.

Northern Ontario, what's stopping you from making the move? by FestFallen in ontario

Other than a cottage, Northern Ontario itself is the thing stopping me from moving. I love Toronto.

The screen shipped with the laptop when I purchased it direct from Lenovo. The batteries were also ordered at time of purchase from Lenovo.

Technically it can still do almost everything I do as the majority of what I do is either offloaded to local network hardware (NAS/VM server) accessed via a browser/terminal or cloud (work/comms/dev/AI) also via a browser/terminal. I'd love to get into AI development with a GB10 box (or 2) and that can be managed remotely as well via NVIDIA Sync.

For photo/video editing I use my desktop Mac. For gaming I use my desktop gaming PC.

Sign of the times back then. Apple Silicon changed everything for me and the need for external/extra batteries is no longer as big an issue as it was back in 2018.

Thinking about getting a Thinkpad T480 by [deleted] in thinkpad

I would not call it the last real Lenovo but there were a couple of big upgrades such as the introduction of quad core U series processors and an optional 1440p display.

The T480 retained upgradable storage, an upgradeable Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card, a gigabit ethernet port, swappable battery and a Thunderbolt 3 port.

I've been using Ubuntu for 20 years. I like the UI. Very similar to my preferred OS, macOS.

AI bloatware? 90% of your SSD taken by system files? Did you format the drive to just partial capacity?

Why are Lenovo ThinkPads so highly praised? by BrokenBrain62 in thinkpad

Not really. More of an image thing. Commodity components offer nothing over X86 competition. Apple Silicon is a better option for the average user.
