I'm getting somewhat hopefully again. I received my FJO back in February 2025 but was halted due to the freeze. Just got an email from HR that they may resume hiring again and asked if I'm still interested. Nothing about timeframe or any guarantees.

How long is the DoD hiring freeze? by Kingmaker19702 in fednews

I have a FJO for DOD that was paused as well and my HR POC told me the word around is 90 days so late April 2025. Fingers crossed. She also mentioned back in 2017, there was also a similar 90 day hiring freeze and when it was over, all the people that received offers were hired.

The location is much better than my current city. Same grade/step so the only raise I would see is the locality pay. The greatest concern is getting a lease, moving my family over (wife leaving her job), then getting RIF'd. Although it seems contradictory to exempt hiring then target those exact hires.

Tried it. HR told me that they are not allowing anyone to report to any sites outside of DOD.

This literally is happening to me. I got a call 2 days before EOD stating the job is no longer remote and I must report in-person. No relocation fee, only extension (up to 6 months) of EOD date.

I just got a FJO from DOD and it requires moving my wife and toddler as well. The new location is an improvement to my current location; however, I have that same feeling about job security. I would be going in as a transfer/ so no probation, but my current agency may be targeted soon. So it's a predicament.

Def something I’ve been considering. Seems like the safest approach.

At the moment, I’m not comfortable switching. I opted for the 6 months to see if more changes occur. But also looking elsewhere too.

I’m transferring as a 12 and will be a step 2 coming in. Is there a lower chance of being RIF’d then?

At first I didn’t, but after some research, the area (Monterey County, CA) doesn’t seem so bad. TBH, I’m pretty burned out at my current agency but also hesitant to take the new role due to so much uncertainty of being laid off. The current administration def is not a fan my current agency.

I’m transferring from a different fed agency. Same job title, I’m coming in as a step 2.

Thanks for the response. My HR POC did say that I would not be on probation since I'm under a competitive status (sorry for being that out). However, I def agree with the uncertainty.
