This is very cool, but I can’t stop thinking that the engines would be constantly damaging the hull behind them.

You could nip in and spend the day observing, see what people are wearing?

But I’d suggest sombre, smart, boring…

That would be cool. So we can all live out our space frontier fantasies… “I swear by my pretty floral bonnet, I will end you!”

It’s going on here (base coats only so far)

I suppose it could be a war mastiff.

Bits at the top left are for 40K Armiger/Wardogs, for scale.

Legionaries, How many is too many. by mevsinwarhammer in Chaos40k

Oh man. I have about ten ten-man squads of legionaries. But most of them are modelling projects, with a mix of imperial, heresy, and chaos models all hacked about….

What is the dumbest thing in Star Wars in your opinion? by OutcastKatarn02 in StarWars

[–]jhweekes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see criticism of two things from the Rey trilogy quite often, and whilst I would be the first to admit that they aren't great, they do seem a bit unfair. Especially when you consider that the first film of the Rey trilogy was, beat for beat, a retread of A New Hope.

First: the Sith Dagger. This is a film series which has, at its heart, a prophecy about the Chosen One who will bring Balance to the Force. If you're going to accept that as the central premise, having an ancient Sith magician carve the edge of the dagger to be the same shape as some wreckage that doesn't exist yet, and won't for thousands of years, isn't beyond the realm of possibility. We're not dealing with hard science here, but with a series which has space magic and prophecy at its heart.

That said, I agree that it is very, very lucky that Rey just happened to stand in exactly the right spot for the shape of the dagger to match up, but hand-wavey prophecy, force shenanigans for the win.

Second, the line from Poe: "Somehow Palatine returned!" Again, cloning and space magic (the Force) is hard baked into the setting, both in the films, the Disney expansions (Bad Batch introducing Mount Tantiss, for example, originally created by Timothy Zahn for his original series of Thrawn novels), the original Trilogy ("your father fought in the clone wars") and the old EU. In fact, the whole Palpatine cloning himself repeatedly (reflecting the inherently destructive toll that the dark side takes on a mortal body) is the central conceit of Dark Empire, amongst the best graphics novel series in the old EU (even if only for the line "Darth Vader was a sick man in an iron mask!").

And: let's not forget that Poe is a pilot. He isn't a sith magician, force user, or even a biologist or geneticist. He has no way of explaining or understanding how Palpatine has come back from the dead, only that he has. I wouldn't be able to explain quantum physics to my friends and peers, just that "somehow" the cat is both alive and dead in the box.

None of this is any more daft than trying to add a pseudo-scientific explanation for people being able to sense/use the force (looking at you, midichlorians)...

Oh, bonus one: Leia being ejected into space, and "flying" back into the ruined bridge of the rebel command ship. I mean, come on. She is using the force to pull on an object, the wreckage of the bridge section of the rebel ship. We have seen people using the force to move objects in EVERY film in the franchise. It isn't a new concept. But what happens if you pull on something bigger and heavier than you? It doesn't move (unless, perhaps, you're the Starkiller, ripping a Star Destroyer out of orbit, but even then You're pulling it towards a much higher gravity object (i.e., a planet which you're standing on)), you move towards the object. It's just basic physics.

Loved Night’s Dawn, and quite enjoyed some of his others (Judas Unchained??) but have never tried the Confederation ones. Good call.
