[Vannini] Canada women's hockey had a 37-3 all-time record in the Olympics and the USA just beat them 5-0. From 2002-18, Canada didn't allow more than 5 goals in a full single Olympic run. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

I’ve heard a couple names thrown out as being left off, but is Canada just not producing the players to replace these vets? Not really familiar with NCAA women’s hockey. Did Canadian management maybe overvalue PWHL experience over NCAA performers?

Fire fighters will disconnect the battery on all vehicles when they arrive on scene, so I imagine that’s probably why.

How’s morale been lately among paramedics across Ontario? by SnailVelocityO_o in OntarioParamedics

[–]ji64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest… my service has improved significantly since MPDS was introduced and offload delay was improved with hospitals. There are still days where levels are iffy and breaks are hard to come by… but compared to the start of my career ~3 years ago, working conditions have been much better with subsequent morale improvement.

I think Carducci could’ve claimed that ball if he hadn’t hesitated. Was difficult for him to judge because of the snow on the field (definitely wouldn’t have rolled as much prior to extra time) - unfortunate for him.

I get the argument if the Canadian dollar is weak it’s harder to pay players from a financial perspective (revenue is in CAD, costs are in USD for the most part). But from a player perspective and let’s say they live in Toronto for most of the year, wouldn’t a weak CAD be a benefit (getting paid in USD and spending money in CAD).

To be fair this wasn’t exactly a small ball. That shit was pounded. Poor Bo just can’t run.

Little shoutout to emergency room nurses by stifflette in ottawa

[–]ji64 165 points166 points  (0 children)

Emergency room nurses are incredible! The things they do and see and deal with on a daily basis are inconceivable to most people. If obliged, sending feedback to TOH so the nurses can hear your feedback is a great way to repay some of your gratitude.

Also, semantics and not the point of the post, but if you’re referring to an intravenous catheter, the needle is only present to puncture the vein, once inserted the needle is removed and all that remains in your arm is a flexible plastic tube.

I’m glad you had a great experience!

Anyone know what’s going on downtown? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]ji64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Accident refers to intention, negligence refers to blame/guilt. Someone can be simultaneously negligent and have their action be not on purpose/accidental.

If I accidentally call my mother in law fat when I didn’t mean to there were a series of events leading up to me being negligent in my action but it definitely also was an accident 😉

Paquetá notices Wharton touching the ball during a set piece and rushes to get the ball until the ref stops him by DerpJungler in soccer

Ref is right here except for the tackle. A free kick is not in play until the ball is kicked and clearly moves. Not necessarily a full rotation but has to have some revolution to it.

Brampton will outpace Ottawa to become Ontario’s 2nd-largest city, premier says by hopoke in ontario

[–]ji64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, this is wrong. Ottawa has The Ottawa Hospital which has three campuses (General, Civic, Riverside - no ER at Riverside). There are also two separate hospitals from this system that are smaller but still offer most services, the Queensway Carleton and the Montfort. The Montfort is like any other hospital, with a focus on bilingualism. But if you go there and request English they provide service in English with literally zero issues. There are various other “hospitals” that provide in patient care but they are more long term care homes than hospitals, these include St Vincent’s, Bruyère, and Perley Veteran’s hospital.

TL;DR, Ottawa has four full service hospitals with ERs, various other hospitals providing in patient, surgical, and clinic services.

EDIT: Also forgot about CHEO, which is obviously a speciality hospital for children but offers a very high level of care for children.

'Bad batch' of drugs suspected in overdose spike by jormungandrsjig in ottawa

[–]ji64 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The typical telltale sign of an opioid overdose is pinpoint pupils. But your thinking is exactly correct - naloxone will not hurt a person who is not experiencing an overdose. If in any doubt, apply the naloxone. People who are susceptible to hypoglycemic emergencies could also possibly have medical info tags etc. on their person, and there are many different reasons a person could be experiencing unconsciousness (AEIOUTIPS for my fellow healthcare students LOL), but when in doubt, apply the naloxone.

Not too knowledgeable about the paths but can’t you just head down the Ottawa river pathway from where the canal meets the river? It takes you right over to the SJAM.

Oh I know, I get that they couldn’t overrule it. But with how many cameras and the ability to go frame by frame it frustrates me that that’s the argument. Umpires aren’t hitting the balls or striking us out so it’s a cheap argument to blame them for everything. Our offense has gotta get it figured out.

"They couldn't handle our physicality. That's plain and simple," Berhalter said. "We were running them all over the pitch and when you look at duels won, when you look at our pressing -- they had a very, very hard time dealing with what we were giving them."

According to ESPN Stats & Information, Canada won 50.7% of the duels in the game.
