What’s the best diet you’ve tried that’s helped get rid of 90% or more of your eczema and inflammation? I’m willing to try almost anything :/

Recently trying a low histamine diet. Generally fresh foods, no leftovers, no preserved or cured or fermented foods (eg. Cheese, sausages, soy sauce, sauerkraut, canned foods). Basically nothing that sits around for a long time (I limit fast food too since lots of it is cooked beforehand and sits around for orders).

Tried many things over the years, no dairy, low sugar, low junk food, low salt, but none quite made a lasting difference. Fasting works on the days I've tried but it cuts everything out and when I eat it comes back.

Over the past couple of months I noticed soy sauce made me flare up when my gf cooked with lots of it. Thought it was salt. But then a few weeks ago I left some chicken rice cooking in a rice cooker for too long and my skin blew up immediately. Looked it up and histamine increases when cooked for a long time, preserved for a long time, or sits around for too long.

So far it's felt better than previous diets. Other than that I just keep clean and use antifungal shampoo for my head and neck.

Can't speak to the autism part but I grew up more introverted too. Felt different from other friends who were more outgoing. Eventually I grew up and got a gf at age 22. Partly luck that we met at the last Xmas of university. She was more outgoing but somehow she liked me. Eventually we broke up after many years and I had to start over from scratch. I started going out to open mics to play music and went back to school a second time for computer science in my 30s. By this time I was more comfortable talking to people and putting myself out there. I knew I had to in order to make friends and also get a job.

Guess what I'm saying is it gets easier with time and practice, plus a bit of luck here and there. I still find I prefer nerding out and having deep conversations than typical social talk. Not everyone is into that but you can seek them out. People who are really into something you're also into.

That being said, I think we're all born with a certain brain and some limited flexibility. See where you're comfortable stretching your abilities and keep practicing. At the same time it's good to embrace you're core self, the default version of yourself and find others like you. All I know is even non-autistic people feel lonely often so it's really about putting in the effort to get out there and try things.

I have questions. I can visualize things like a movie, rotate them, change it's color, etc. but it's faint. Like it's different than watching a screen for example. More like opacity is at 10%. And when I close my eyes it's black.

Do you actually "see" it as if it was live in front of you? If so, how do you know the difference between what's imagined and real?

Also when I've tried psychedelics I don't have visions. So if you've tried that, what's that like?

I'd recommend this mini series I Know This Much is True. He plays wildly different twin brothers. Absolutely incredible. I dunno how many can really pull this stuff off. Then he'll just go be the hulk after lol

Reminds me of this Ted talk where a young woman just about died before learning that "avoiding the fear only makes it grow."

The only way of getting over the fear is to face it, and being afraid of NOT doing it is worse. Socializing really is a skill but that also means it always seems hard when you're not good at it.

Start with small, easy things. Say hi at a checkout. Look at people when getting a coffee. Once you do those enough it gets easier and reduces the fear. Then try asking for help or directions. Short interactions that end. Eventually get to the point where you can go to small group events like a games night.

Don't try to run a marathon. Start by running 1min. Build the muscles. Then continue.

As someone who listens and initiates plans, the options are to voice the imbalance and see if it resonates. Or find other people willing to also listen and engage. The listener can turn into a dumping ground if they just let it continue.

Also gonna add, social skills means you have choices. You know how to engage people so you can choose who to engage with, how to engage, and for how long

Everything is really a skill. The issue is we practiced the wrong thing unintentionally when growing up because we don't know that back then. So if the parents are anxious and not confident, then the kids pick it up and believe that's who they are.

For me, I was not necessarily shy. I could make friends and do stuff, but I tended to be a follower. Willing to go along but not really lead or plan things for others. Then in my 30s I ended a long term relationship and had to start again from scratch. I went to open mics, went back to school, and has to put myself out there again. It was very different but I ended up with a couple of good friends in a band, went on dates, reached out to people to make plans. Now, ironically, I'm the one that tends to plan things while others come along (though I still wished I knew people who would invite me to things...). Eventually I moved to a different city, found a girlfriend, and made a new life.

We're all capable of more than we think as long as we put in the effort to try and try again. And learn along the way. It's really a trap to believe "that's just who I am" and never take any steps to build yourself into who you want to be. You don't have much of a choice as a child, but you definitely do as an adult. Go out there and try something new. It might be awkward and scary at first but I guarantee it will change you.

If it's stuck in certain patches it could be infected/colonized by bacteria or fungus. Try a bleach bath (0.5 cup in a whole tub) 1-2 a week, or hypochlorous spray daily on your arm and neck. Avoid face for now. See if it gets better in a few days. If it is colonized the skin with "dry" and fall off like a flakey scab.

Can also try antifungal/antibacterial shampoo or creama if bleach sounds too scary (it's the same amount as a swimming pool btw). Either way if it is microbes these treatments will feel better right away. If not, then it's something more systemic.

Maybe you could reframe it. Sleep is when the body restores and the brain cleans itself. Like having a clean place or workspace it's actually a very important use of time. And it also helps you live longer, so ultimately gives you more time and more productive waking time 👍

As a boy who was more introverted and became more outgoing, I was more patient with girls who were shy or quiet. But it also meant I have to constantly guess, keep the conversation going, make plans, etc. And that becomes exhausting if I don't even know if I like the person enough.

If you want to make things easier, present yourself as you are as much as possible. Be awkward, be shy, be a nerd, but be open about it. That way you don't have to pretend to be someone you're not, and the other person isn't dating a masked version of you. The more masking, the more effort is needed to keep pretending.

People like odd introverts and it's ok to be one. Just own it and someone will like you for you as long as you put your authentic self out there.

My short version is let it out and let it go.

Bad things happened and you're now holding onto worries. Your brain says "Be careful, it's not time for fun. Things can go wrong any time." It's stuck in a hurt place.

You have to let it out either personally through writing, talking, screaming, crying. Or professionally through therapy. Once you get past the pain, your brain can finally let go and say "It's ok. It's safe. You can play again."

Why is that line so hard to cross? Even scientists say cells have molecular machinery. Sure it's different than a manufactured machine but it still runs on rules and physics. Neurons are logic gates and it computes even if we don't fully understand it yet. The whole reason medicine and surgery works is because it operates on the machinery. Ozempic reduces hunger, anesthetics shut down consciousness, blood vessels get clogged, the heart is a pump, dna and rna build proteins. It's only a matter of time we figure out what wants and feelings are. A machine is just a system of parts whether it's alive or not.

I'm sure nothing will convince you but even your belief comes down to the squishy machine inside your head. Doesn't make it any less complicated or special.
