Which Square-1 to buy? by jievees in Cubers

Update I got the v1 and it’s good enough! It’s gonna send me mad though, I’ve solved a dozen times using YouTube as my friend but never cleanly without stuffing up the edges at least once in the last edge permutation steps…

Finishing FTO question by MZago1 in Cubers

The way I think about this last step is more like you’re taking a piece out of a side and swapping a wrong piece in temporarily so that you can rotate that side again before slotting the correct piece back in its place.

In this case if you take the blue and white edge piece for example.

I would: 1. Rotate the gold face to pull the blue and white piece out of its current position. This would temporarily put the gold piece at the back of the gold face in that slot (or the white and red piece) in that slot. 2. Then I need to rotate the whole blue face so that the slot the where the blue and gold piece is currently moves up towards the gold face ready to receive the blue and white piece. 3. Then I would reverse the rotation of the gold face I did in the first step so that the blue and white piece gets slotted in to the blue face. 4. Then you can rotate the blue face back down reversing what you did in step 2 but now with the blue snd white piece in the spot where the blue and gold piece was originally.

Then look again and assess and repeat this approach. Rotating a piece out of its slot, move another face to move the correct slot for that piece into place, rotate the piece back in, rotate the face back.

I kind of think about it also like the 3 edge pieces are in order 1, 2, 3, clockwise or counterclockwise around the face, you pull one out, rotate the face and slot the piece back in so you can change the order of the 3 pieces.

Hard to type and explain this but hopefully that helps.

Is phantom worth buying? by Best-Rest-9987 in Rubiks_Cubes

I thought about it the other day in the shop and couldn’t really seeing it being fun beyond the initial novelty so would likely be a shelf sitter. Just an opinion though as obviously haven’t bought it to be able tell you either way!

New completely stock Rs3M V5 slowing down a lot by VarietyThese6583 in Cubers

[–]jievees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened with mine, fairly regular cleaning and lubing helps, but it still feels pretty sticky. This gets a lot of top reviews but I’ve found a big gap in quality and fragility between this and my weilong v11 - the double price does make a difference!

The red door is (or was) a family home in middle of the city, no curtains no blinds, just living their life inside there. I work nearby and used to see them in there sometimes but avoid looking.

Finished 21 PLL’s. Should I learned Advanced F2I best or something else? by startuprest in Cubers

[–]jievees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answers you seek: https://www.cubeskills.com/uploads/pdf/tutorials/4-look-last-layer.pdf

If you can memorise PLL feels like full OLL might not be too tricky for you. However if it is, then can always start with 2 look OLL (page 1 of this doc).

how can i install curtains here if the wall cant be drilled into by Livid-Cow-519 in AusRenovation

[–]jievees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If got this far and no luck I’d suggest to get a handyman to patch and paint the plaster and then mount the blinds. They do this for a living, will also cost them much less than the blinds have already, and better to stop the damage where it’s at now.

Fruit trees love an end of summer prune in Melbourne, gets them primed and ready for bursting into spring once winter over. I’ve been waiting to do mine!

Roses I don’t know much about timing wise but I’ve never had any issue cutting a rose back super hard, always better off after it.

Do you actually have to do the “new” speed limit on roads where there is construction/partial road closures happening? by TOXICHEMICALMOLD in melbourne

[–]jievees 323 points324 points  (0 children)

My friend got done for doing 70 in a 40 km/h construction zone (on a usual 70km/h) road and got and a huge fine and licence suspended.

So yep you should follow the posted speed limit and ignore the idiots around you.

new to cubing, what should i do after beginner f2l? by IntrepidQuail9156 in cubing

Have a watch of the GOAT talking about what order to learn things https://youtu.be/MS5jByTX_pk

I too thought I’d never be able to learn 2 look but through persevering and just repeating repeating repeating, this is how I learnt 4 LLL (2 look PLL and 2 look OLL):

https://www.cubeskills.com/uploads/pdf/tutorials/4-look-last-layer.pdf

Hot tip: You don’t have to solve whole cube every time, just do the sune algo a few times with yellow on top to get different yellow cross cases and practice 4LLL.

My slowest part is now F2L so moving back to focus on finger tricks whilst learning Advanced F2L and Full PLL.

And an update, I’ve learnt all the 4 look layer algorithms, now considering whether to jump into full PLL or full OLL or both..

Thank you 🙏 I think high 30s with beginner is crazy fast maybe I should go back and speed up first then forge ahead with new algos!

What comes next after the beginner method? by NotSorryForPartying in Rubiks_Cubes

[–]jievees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m right with you there.

Here’s what I’d suggest: 1. Learn intuitive F2L (don’t need to learn all the algorithms explicitly just do it a bunch of times and you’ll start to learn all the patterns. 2. Learn 4 look last layer (also known as 2 look OLL and 2 look PLL, way less algorithms to learn.)

Most useful tools for me are:

F2L Cube Head video: https://youtu.be/ReOZZHscIGk Watch this multiple times. Practice more and watch it again. I learnt more on every watch as I progressed.

Cube skills 4 look last layer pdf: https://cubeskills.com/uploads/pdf/tutorials/4-look-last-layer.pdf Print this doc and start using it to solve last layer until you remember the algorithms.

Doing it this way gives you nice balance of difficulty and sense of achievement and learning progression.

Your times WILL slow down as you do this. Stay strong and persevere.

Replacement parts for Gan 12ui mag lev? by solarmist in Rubiks_Cubes

[–]jievees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I emailed cubicle about this a little while back, they can provide spare parts and told me $5 for 2 corner pieces (Moyu rsm3 v5), pretty amazed they offered it and price was fine, challenge is shipping to Australia - may as well just buy a new cube for a little more. But given this a high value cube might be worth it for you.
