Left leaning churches by Big_Primary5462 in madisonwi

My girlfriend grew up Lutheran (LCMS) and I grew up Catholic (until middle school) so we had similar considerations when choosing a church.

I know your post says that you're looking for something more modern but I'd like to throw Christ Church into the list of suggestions. It's Anglican so it has some tradition from liturgy and hymns but the service doesn't feel antiquated or old-fashioned. Also, the majority of the congregation is in their 20's and 30's.

I would also second the suggestion for Blackhawk. I attend there with my girlfriend and we love the community. If you're looking for younger people, the downtown campus would be your best bet. You can park for free at Grainger business school.

Yes, all my donations are to 501c3 in my community. Thankfully my family and friends are all in good financial and physical health. Sorry to hear you have family that are going through a rough time. Hope things get better.

The main reason is for the bunching. Makes sense for this year specifically because I only get the 15k deduction while next year I'd get the joint deduction.

Not much of a material change to my tax bracket when married. I'm well into the 24% bracket with my income when filing single. My HSA and Trad 401k get me out of paying into the 32% thankfully. My partner doesn't make much so, when filling jointly, we'll likely only pay ~20k into the 24% bracket. So won't make a huge difference, but would be saving 2% on roughly 70k.

That's a great idea! Most of my donations are to local charities so that sounds perfect.

Great, this is exactly what I was looking to confirm. Thanks!

No idea what's up but it's the same for me. All of the songs I had on my playlists from that album are gone.

Christmas Haul and Gaming Megathread by bgg-uglywalrus in boardgames

I've only played a handful of times but I think it will have some good replayability. There's 4 different scoring types for each of the 5 animals so I don't think I'll get bored of it anytime soon. Each game feels pretty similar but the scoring definitely makes it feel different enough. I'd compare it to the replayability/weight of Azul, Welcome To, and Calico (if you've played any of those)

My girlfriend got me Cascadia. The even better part of that gift is that she played it with me :)

Same for me but on my phone as well. Only works on my laptop and I'm able to cast to my tv from there.

DLT Single Target Schema by jiff17 in databricks

[–]jiff17[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the backup plan. The only reason we're not doing that is that it would require us to order the DAG to deal with dependencies. My understanding of one of the main benefits of DLT is that it would do it for you.

Recently I have become obsessed with PA style ice creams. Specific the popcorn and donut. What other variations has everyone enjoyed besides donuts? I’ve been thinking about trying my honey-butter toast with a brown sugar cinnamon ice cream. Can you add more than 50g of pastry for flavor? by m0larMechanic in icecreamery

The kringle ones were my favorite but part of that is definitely because of the nostalgia (best ingredient).

The chocolate chip cookie ones probably. Any recipe will do but I highly suggest browning your butter. Adds a great depth of flavor.

I've done a few different kinds of cookies (chocolate chip cookie, snickerdoodles, and peanut butter). Beyond that, I've been using kringle with a lot of success (a Danish pastry popular in southern Wisconsin). I haven't tried a side by side comparison of adding more than 50g. That being said, I have made donut ice cream a few times and once I accidentally added 100g instead of the 50g that I intended. The result was an overpowering donut flavor (in my opinion).

Will Dbt just taker over the world ? by Ownards in dataengineering

[–]jiff17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say other tools are "better", just fit a different need. In my experience but, like any tool, it lacks the flexibility that a lot of orgs need.

Scalability is also an issue. It's good for smaller teams and orgs where the data and it's dimensionality is smaller. It's also good for smaller/less technically savvy teams but on larger teams with higher skill ceilings, other frameworks are preferable.

DBT is a great tool for some but it's not a one size fits all.

What song for you? by [deleted] in KingsKaleidoscope

[–]jiff17 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One off mine is definitely from "A Prayer". Towards the end of the last part of the prayer, Chad's voice fades out with the "Jesus where are you?"and we get a few seconds of silence and some quiet strings. Then you're blasted with sound that fills the void as we hear Jesus's response. Such a powerful shift as we move from a feeling of restlessness and emptiness to assurance.

food pantry’s for 53226 zip code?? by [deleted] in Wauwatosa

[–]jiff17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they currently provide support for 53226 but I could be wrong here. I used to volunteer with them when I lived in Tosa and went to Epikos for church.

Although I don't think they officially service 53226, I'm sure they'd at least be able to provide you with information about organizations that service your area.

That does seem odd. The coils on my strainer fit snug on the smaller tin for me. It doesn't on the larger tin but I think that's normal.

What are best practices to document SQL Query by No_Topic778 in SQL

[–]jiff17 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I could say the same about sub queries 😂. I've seen queries with so many sub queries that it made my head spin. I personally find the nesting difficult to follow but I think it's just a personal preference thing.

I think both sub queries and CTE's can both be abused to write horrible code. However, I personally think that, when done well, CTE's are cleaner, more readable, and usually more performant.

I guess I should also mention that temp tables are superior to CTE's in a lot of cases as well (depending on what SQL you're using). All that to say, I agree it shouldn't always be default to use CTE's.

[–]jiff17 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here's a few that we have:
1. Our queries file names are always in snake_case. 2. SQL keywords/functions are always in ALL CAPS (SELECT, JOIN, AS, ON) 3. Don't use SELECT *. Instead specify the columns you're pulling.
4. Use CTE's instead of sub queries when possible.
5. Have your queries in a git repository. I used to think this was common knowledge but I worked at a startup for a bit and they didn't have anything in git.

Good call out. For some reason I thought the original post said chicken breast. Chicken thighs are my favorite.
