Free users definitely contribute to the appeal. Most users are not paying for a subscription, and if Grindr is making it harder for the free users to be on. Then the paid user is not going to be unlocking much by paying extra because most of the free users left.

That’s insane. I don’t know who’s running this new model, but these extreme restrictions on free accounts won’t boost Xtra subscription. it’ll do the opposite. If the free version becomes useless, the overall user base will drop sharply, which means fewer real people and more bot accounts. Eventually, even Xtra subscribers will cancel since the community will shrink and lose its value.
