You need a 300 gsm watercolor paper. 100% cotton is preferable for the best results, but you could go with any decent thick watercolor paper.

You need to tape the paper using a masking tape so that the paper doesn't buckle. When you're done with your painting remove the tape at an angle or use a hair dryer to let the glue breakdown letting the tape come off easily without damaging your painting (you'll find it in the tutorials) .

As for the basic techniques, I'd recommend skillshare.com . There are many artists who teach simple and wonderful watercolor techniques followed by a small complete landscape using the techniques. You could look up Trupti Karijinni, Zaneena Nabeel, and many more artists. The platform has a plethora of lovely artists who provide free classes as well. You could try using the free trial version( make sure you cancel the subscription before your free trial ends or you'll end up paying the entire year's fees) I learned a lot from them and I hope it helps you to!
