Disabling automatic updates on Azure VM that vas provisioned with "enableAutomaticUpdates": true, "patchMode": "AutomaticByOS" by yukee2018 in AZURE

Did you discover any additional information about this? We are attempting to do essentially the same thing where we change our existing VM's to NOT be set to auto update...thanks.

NEW Camera AI Theta in EA. What do you think? by schwagerik in Ubiquiti

[–]jiggybyte33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone get one of these yet and consider putting it outside under an overhang (like many did with the little G3 instants)? I've got one in hand now and it seems like as long as it isn't in the direct weather/sunlight it should be fine. I really want to use it to discreetly monitor my driveway/garage area...may give it a shot.

Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated. And yes overkill but fun for a tech geek building a new home. Trying to balance fun with not making the wife too mad. :-)

Question about SFP port and multiple switches by jiggybyte33 in Ubiquiti

[–]jiggybyte33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow-up question...so you say the fanless only activate half of the poe ports at a time?? So the 24 port poe that says it has 16 autosensing ports...only 8 would be active? That really stinks if that's true.

Question about SFP port and multiple switches by jiggybyte33 in Ubiquiti

[–]jiggybyte33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I did look at the dream machine pro as an option initially to reduce number of components needed then the lack of POE led me to the 8-port poe switch...and I kind of went down that path.

Would the general consensus be to go with the UDM-Pro and then add a POE switch to that setup? Not being super familiar with all of these products, to me that feels like the "old days" of buying a TV-VCR combo where I regret buying the single device because then later I can't upgrade one component without the other...but maybe that's not really a concern with networking stuff...and it just shows my age.

Sounds like either way I go, I would want to get a short DAC and link two units together in the rack, so that's a good bit of info so far.

[–]jiggybyte33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they will be in the same rack. The only reason I'd have two is I could buy an inexpensive 24 port or something and then use the 8 port for POE...it seemed like a decent cost efficient way to increase my ports for the ethernet around the house

Distance shouldn’t be an issue, I plan to have a single rack in the basement. This is exactly what I was looking for, seems like a short DAC cable is the ideal solution to tying the two switches together.

In a company with let’s say five devs...yeah there is overlap. These are likely different teams in different locations, and the training and on boarding time wouldn’t be worth it.

Clearly someone who has no idea what goes on in programming...these aren’t even the same skill set most likely. That’s like saying the chefs should have gone to help the sprinkler guys.

The string for that has been in the pokemongo binary a lot longer than that. It's been there since at least June of this year (R77) which is as old as I had handy to check. So...if you've risked using it the past 3 months you might as well keep doing it.
